[60285] Althea's obituary: "Penobscot, ME/ Winchester, TN - Althea Mary Bridges Hooper passed away on February 10, 2025, in Winchester, TN. She was born in the family home in Penobscot, ME, on December 23, 1931, to Fred and Annie Bridges. She was the little sister of Arlene Gross, Merton, Harvard and Arnold Bridges. She graduated from Clark High School as valedictorian and attended the Eastern School for Beauty Culture. In September 1958, she married Arnold Hooper and they enjoyed 66 years of love and companionship. After Arnold's retirement from IBM, they left Readfield, ME, and returned to her family home, where they lived there for more than 30 years. Althea will long be remembered as the hostess of Sunday morning coffee. For years, at precisely 8, cars would begin to roll into the driveway, and an assortment of up to 16 brothers, sisters, nieces, nephews and friends, would arrive to take their 'assigned seats with their special coffee mugs.' After an hour of reminiscences, delicious baked goods, and catching up on the local news in the little kitchen, nephew, Lennie Bridges, would begin to gather up the empty mugs and everyone would head out having had the perfect start to their day. Althea was also a brilliant Scrabble player, and she and her daughter, Kathy, had a years-long, more than 300 game competition. Often, she would be behind the whole game, complaining that her brain just wasn't working, and right at the end, she would make a 70-point play and win! She was 3 games ahead when she passed away, and, as she always said, despite winning, 'I hope we can part as friends.' Althea is survived by her husband, Arnold; daughter, Kathy (Tom) Prince; grandchildren; Traver (Katherine) and great-granddaughter, Claire, and Pelatiah (Emily); great-grandson Parker; son, Stephen Hooper and granddaughter, Clarissa Hooper. She will also be missed by their dear friends and travel buddies, Tony and Bernice Macdonald, and Jerry and Edna Andrews."
[2146] William joined the great revolt of 1173 and in defeat saw his castles razed. They were rebuilt when the earldom was restored, and Tutbury Castle remained in the family until 1266. Cf. the Earls of Derby line in "Medieval English Ancestors of Certain Americans," Carl Boyer III (Santa Clarita, CA, 2001), p. 83-85.
