[21233] "The Choteau Acantha [Choteau, Montata]," 5 April 1979, p. A1: "William B. (Bill) Black, long time Choteau area resident, died Tuesday, March 27 at Seattle, Wash, where he had resided for the past, several months at the home of his son, Maurice. Funeral services were held Saturday, March 31 at Zwerneman Mortuary. Burial followed in the Choteau cemetery. Rev. Oyer Morgan officiated at the services. Pallbearers were Bert Guthrie, Leon Gollehon, Joe White, Francis Carrier, Robert Danks and Elmer Baker. Black, who was a retired rancher, packer and guide, was born Aug. 21, 1889 at Mariaville, Maine. He came to Montana in 1909 and homesteaded west of Choteau in 1911. He married Justina Gray at Choteau in 1914 and she died in 1937. Black was always an interesting person to visit with and had a vivid memory of happenings of the past, and could pinĀ point the activity with dates. However, in his later years he became hard of hearing and was difficult to visit with unless notes were written for him to read. Survivors include, sons, MauĀrice of Seattle and Charles of Great Falls, and a step-son. R.J. Jones of Medford. Ore."
