See http://www.geocities.com/Heartland/Plains/9004/Norton.html (not verified) for this line. Cf. http://babbage.clarku.edu/~djoyce/gen/report/rr01/rr01_213.html. Henry m. (1) Elizabeth ____ who was buried 05 Jan 1613 at Streatley. Henry's first child was Samuel, baptised 02 Mar 1613, buried 26 Mar 1613. Henry was eldest son of his father, thirteen years old when his father died.
Received via email 1 April 1999: "I have just visited your home page as I have a link with the Nortons of Sharpenhoe. During my searches I have come across some details about the ownership of the Manor of Sharpenhoe which has made me wonder if there is an extra Henry Norton involved - perhaps the one who married Sarah Lawson could have been the son of the Henry who was the heir to Thomas Norton, poet, MP and notorious torturer of Catholics. The following is from the Victoria County History of Bedfordshire: Sharpenhoe Manor - Sold by Edward Mordaunt to Thomas Norton who died 1584 - leaving his thirteen old son Henry Norton, who in 1604 settled the manor on Robert Norton, and his male heirs, with reversion to William and Walter Norton and their male heirs. In 1610 William and Walter Norton sold the manor to their uncle Luke Norton, who died in 1630, and was succeeded by his son Graveley Norton who in turn sold the estates in 1646 for L3,050 to William Wheeler of Silsoe. It is odd that Henry Norton would have waited until his 40s to marry for the first time - especially as he was a catch - wealthy in his own right from the age of 13 - why did he settle the land on this William and Walter - are they his brothers or the sons of Robert? This is a big bit of real estate to just give away to a couple of cousins. In addition to the Manor Thomas also had the advowson of the church at Sharpenhoe which was out of Henry's hands by 1606 as Sharpenhoe Rectory: Rectory, Church and advowson of vicarage granted to Thomas Norton by the Crown. His descendants, Richard, William, and Walter Norton sold them in 1606. Do you have Thomas' will? - this would clear up a lot of this confusion. My own line connects with Thomas the poet's brother Luke who had two sons who married a pair of my ancestor's daughters. [See notes for Henry's grandfather, Thomas.] - Vanessa Trampleasure (vanessa.trampleasure@lineone.net), Brentwood, Essex, England.
