[4021] He "owed his elevation to Zoe, the empress who, in order to secure her position, married Constantine, with whom she shared the throne till her death in 1050. In his old age, Constantine, who had once been a famous warrior, utterly neglected the defences of the empire and reduced his army by disbanding 50,000 of his best troops; on the other hand, he spent extravagent sums on luxuries and the erection of magnificent buildings." -Encyclopaedia Britannica, 1956, 6:302. He reigned 1042-54. Cf. http://homepages.rootsweb.com/~cousin/html/p80.htm, http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Constantine_IX_Monomachos and http://fmg.ac/Projects/MedLands/BYZANTIUM.htm.

[36106] See "Foster Genealogy," pp. 168-172. Find A Grave Memorial 9689465 offers: "Revolutionary War militia officer/Minuteman. He lived in South Danvers, now the city of Peabody. He was captain of the Danvers Alarm List which answered the call to arms on the morning of April 19, 1775, and marched toward Lexington and Concord. The British retreat became a running fight which the Danvers men joined at Menotomy, now Cambridge. Enraged and harried British soldiers engaged the Americans in hand-to-hand fighting and no quarter was given. Seven Danvers men under Foster's command were killed. Months later, Foster led his men in an effort to resupply American forces at the Battle of Bunker Hill, which they accomplished under a steady bombardment from British ships in Boston Harbor. Later in life he was made major general of the Massachusetts militia by the legislature and participated in the laying of the cornerstone of the Battle of Lexington monument in 1835. A successful manufacturer, he also served in the state legislature and lived to the age of 96."

The oldest oaks still growing there today were planted at his instruction in 1589.
