John settled at Rowley, MA where he was made a freeman 13 May 1640 and was recorded that year as a proprietor of the town. He held various town offices. He is probably the person given in J.C.Hotten's "List of Immigrants to America" as Joseph Borebancke, 24 yrs. who arrived at Salem, Mass. in 1635 on the "Abigail" (who shortly moved on to Charlestown, now part of Boston, where he probably was a servant to George Hadbourne, a glove-maker from Stepney, Middlesex, who presumably paid for John's passage; John's future wife, Joan Jorden/Jordan, age 16 is listed with him in the passenger list as servants of Hadborne; the listing clerk in London often wrote Jo. for Joseph or John, and the compiler may have assumed the former, as often happened.) {See NEHGR 14:316; Topographical Dict. of English Immigrants to N.E., 1620-1650, p. 114; Savage's "Gen. "Soldiers in King Phillips War" reports that John came to America with his mother, Jane (?), and his brother, Capt. Samuel Burbank. John was one of the first 40 families in "Rogers Plantation," now Rowley, and part of Plum Island, where he owned the seventh lot (1/2 acre and house) on Bradford Street, and some meadow on Plum Island. By a previous wife, Ann, John had two sons: John (m. Oct 1635 Susanna Merrill) and Timothy (b. 18 May 1641, d. 14 Jul 1660). The name Burbank is from a location, perhaps from Burbank House in Dacre, Cumbria, possibly combining Old English burh stronghold, manor with Old Danish banke bank, ridge.

[5948] Thomas was fourth of eleven children born to Edward and Hannah. He served in the Narraganset campaign in King Philip's War, 1675. He moved to Boxford in the late 1680s and to Norwich, Conn. about 1710. He and Mary are probably buried in the "old Indian burying ground" near Norwich.

"Born around 1420, John Howard was the son and heir of Sir Robert Howard and Margaret, daughter of Thomas Mowbray, Duke of Norfolk. Through his mother and her female line, he was descended from Edward I, thus making him the premier Duke and heir to the title of Earl Marshall. Nothing is known of his childhood.
His first recorded service was in 1451, when he followed Lord LIsle to Guienne. He was also present at the Battle of Chatillon in Jul two years later. It was at this time that he entered the service of John Mowbray, Duke of Norfolk.
"On the first accession of Edward IV, Howard was knighted and appointed Constable of Colchester Castle, Sheriff of Norfolk and Suffolk. He was also one of the Kings Carvers.
"Howard took an active part in John Mowbrays quarrel with John Paston. In Aug 1461, he was involved in a violent brawl with Paston and used his influence with Edward IV against Paston. In Nov of the same year, Howard was imprisoned after giving offence at the election of Paston, causing many complaints against him.
"The following year, he was appointed Constable of Norwich Castle and received grants of several manors forfeited by the Earl of Wiltshire. He was joined by William Neville, Baron Fauconberg and Lord Clinton to "keep the seas", taking Croquet and the Isle of Rhe. Later in the year, he was sent to help the Richard Neville, Earl of Warwick at Warkworth.
"In the Spring of 1464, Howard helped Norfolk secure Wales for Edward IV. He bought the reversion of Bamburgh Castle in Jun of the same year and was with Edward IV and his court at Reading by the years end.
"Howard was appointed Vice Admiral for Norfolk and Suffolk in 1466, and was charged with conveying envoys from England to France and the Duke of Burgundy. He remained in Calais from 15 May to 27 Sep.
"He was elected Knight of the Shire for Suffolk in Apr 1467, having been elected Knight of the Shire for Norfolk in 1455. Nov 1467 saw him as an appointed Envoy to France as well as Treasurer to the Household, a post which he held until 1474. The following Jun (1468) he attended Margaret of York to Flanders for her marriage to Charles, Duke of Burgundy.
"On the restoration of Henry VI, he was created Baron de Howard (15 Oct 1470). However, when Edward IV landed back in England in Mar 1471, after living in exile in Bruges, Howard proclaimed Edward to be King.
"The following Jun, he was appointed Deputy Governor of Calais. When Edward IV invaded France in Jul 1474, he was accompanied by John Howard, who was one of the commissioners who made a truce at Amiens. Howard received a pension from Louis XI and remained in France, briefly, as a hostage after Edwards departure. On Howards return to England, he was granted manors in Suffolk and Oxfordshire forfeited by John de Vere, Earl of Oxford.
John Howard was also sent by Edward to treat with France on several occasions Jul 1477, Mar 1478, and Jan 1479. Also, in 1479, he was put in charge of the fleet which was sent to Scotland.
"At Edward IVs funeral in Apr 1483, he carried Edwards Banner. He then attached himself to Richard III. On 13 May 1483, he was appointed High Steward of the Duchy of Lancaster and wa made a Privy Councillor. A month later, John Howard was created Duke of Norfolk and Earl Marshall. He persuaded Elizabeth Woodville to let the young Duke of York join his brother Edward V in the Tower. He was possibly involved in the murder of the two princes in the Tower of London. At Richard IIIs coronation, Howard performed many functions he acted as High Steward, bore the crown, and, as Earl Marshall, was the Kings Champion. Shortly afterwards, he was created Admiral of England, Ireland, and Aquitaine, and was appointed Chief of Commissioners to negotiate with James III of Scotland on 12 Sep 1484 at Nottingham.
"In Aug 1485, he summoned his retainers to Bury St. Edmunds and commanded the vanguard at the Battle of Bosworth, where he was killed. Howard was attainted at Henry VIIs first Parliament. Warned in the following distich: 'Jockey of Norfolk be not too bold,/ For Dickon thy master is bought and sold'. He was buried in the conventual church at Thetford, Norfolk."

[51226] "The Ellsworth American [Ellsworth,Maine], 10 June2014": "Swans Island - Evelyn Ernestine 'Teenie' Withee Kent, 90, of Swans Island died June 8, 2014, in Deer Isle. Teenie was born Jan. 14, 1924, on Swan's Island. She was the oldest daughter of Ernest Roger Withee and Nora Evelyn Billings Withee. Ernestine was predeceased by husband, Richard; sisters, Shirley and Margie; brother, Leland and his twin sister, Lelia, who died at birth; and great-granddaughter, Delaney Anne Williams. Teenie is survived by four children, Richard 'Dick' Kent Jr., Douglas Kent, Marcia Kent de la Haye, and Julie Kent. The family has grown over the years to Dicks wife, Becky, Dougs wife, Jo-Ann, Marcias husband, Ray, 10 grandchildren, and seven great- grandchildren. She is also survived by her sister, Beulah; and many nieces and nephews. Teenie had the great joy of spending her last months with her sister, Beulah, as they were both residents at the assisted living facility of The Island Nursing Home. Her growing-up years were spent on Swans Island and things were very hard during the Depression. Several of her fathers family members lived with them, so there was not a lot to go around. Teenie moved to Portland in her late teens with her family. This was during the war years and she found work in the Firestone Tire Factory. After the war, Teenie moved back to Swans Island and found work with a summer family. Richard Kent had a car and at times noticed Teenie walking to work. Soon, he planned his rides around the place and times of her schedule! They were married on Nov. 10, 1948. Teenie has been a busy and involved person throughout her life. While raising her family, she was a faithful member for 40 years at the Advent Christian Church in Minturn. She taught Sunday school for many years, she was a member of the Womens Home and Foreign Mission Society, and she helped with youth groups and many other activities at the church. In the late 1960s and into the 1970s, she had her own business, a bakery called The Bread Basket. She was known for her talent as a baker of homemade breads, pies and especially her CINNAMON ROLLS. The local stores would call very often to find out when the bread would be ready. The day before the 4th of July would find her making dozens and dozens of pies for the towns picnic. Through the years, Teenie also did book keeping for Richards numerous businesses and picked crab meat that was sold at her brother-in-laws store. She sewed clothes for her children, knit, crocheted and made quilts for the Mission Society. Her home was always warm and welcoming. She was a great hostess and graciously fed all who came through her door, whether it be her family visiting for the summer, her husband's friends, or her childrens friends from high school that were home for the weekend. In the summer/fall of 1986, Richard and Teenie sold their home on Swans Island and moved to the mainland. They eventually settled in Ellsworth where she attended the United Baptist Church. Her kindness and generosity blessed her friends and neighbors. In 2010, Teenie moved to the Island Nursing Home in Deer Isle, where she received the best of care from a loving staff! She continued to be involved in her childrens lives. She loved all of her grandchildren and great-grandchildren dearly and was quick to pray for them. Her strong faith was an example to many."
