[13848] "The Daily Item [Sunbury, Pennsylvania], 6 Jan 1967," p. 13: "Ray Haas, 78v of Lebanon, died Thursday afternoon at the Cedar Crest Home, just outside of Lebanon. He was a former resident of Pitman. He was born and raised at Pitman, son of the late Mr., and Mrs. Wesley W. Haas. Surviving are his widow, the former Gertrude Geist; a sister, Mrs. Mayme Geist, and a brother, Daniel Haas, both of Pitman, and several nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held Sunday at 1 p.m. from the Roland funeral home in Lebanon. Burial will be in the St. Paul's Church Cemetery at Pitman."
[17554] The unverified Ancestral File states that Thomas is son of Robert Holmes and wife Jane. "Old Kittery and Her Families," Everett S. Stackpole (Lewiston, ME: Lewiston Journal Co., 1903), p. 536: "Thomas Holmes married Joanna, dau. of William Freathy of York and received land of his father-in-law in 1671. He then had children. He was of Dover in 1675 and bought land in Berwisk in 1676. His house was a garrison. It was burned by Indians in 1689. Administration of his estate was granted to widow Joanna 23 Feb. 1690/91." Note: the birthdates of Thomas and children sown here present a problem - further research is needed.

[2704] Henry, second son of Edmund, was made Earl of Leicester by King Edward II who refused him the Lancaster title and estates of his brother Thomas. When Queen Isabella took up arms against her husband in 1326, Earl Henry joined her and was gaoler of King Edward II at Kenilworth Castle. When Edward III became King, Earl Henry became Earl of Lancaster and secured his brother's lands, becoming also Steward of England. In 1328 he tried to overthrow Mortimer but failed, then making peace with the King, and finally succeeding against Mortimer. Earl Henry then became blind and retired from public life. {-ref.: Encyclopaedia Britannica, 1956 Ed., 13:642} See http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Henry_Plantagenet,_3rd_Earl_of_Lancaster and cf. http://www.geneajourney.com/plntgnt.html (not verified).
