[1876] Childeric I was established around Tournai with his tribe and fought against the Visigoths with the Roman General Odoacer and with him intercepted a band of Alamanni. He ruled the Salic Franks 458-481; his kingdom included Siene, Marne, Meuse, Moselle, Treves, Angers and Orleans. In 1653 his tomb was discovered at Tournai. He broke with Rome and was succeeded by his son Clovis. Childeric's tribe had come to the fertile valleys of the Somme and the Oise rivers to find new lands to farm. "Bangor Daily News [Bangor, Maine]," 28 March 1961, p. 13: "Bucksport - Thurman R. Snowman, 80, who had been residing with his daughter, Mrs. Raymond Royal of Ellsworth for the past several years, died Monday at an Ellsworth nursing home after a long illness. He was born at Orland December 9, 1880, the son of Isaac and Augusta (Buker) Snowman. His wife, Mrs. Lulu (Ginn) Snowman, died in 1934. Survivors are eight daughters, Mrs. Raymond Royal and Mrs. Robert Royal of Ellsworth, Mr.s George Tibbetts of Milford, N. H., SFC Carolyn .S Roy serving with the WACS in Maryland, Mrs. Milton Linscott of Hulls Cove, Mrs. David Reynolds of Wrentham, Mass., Mrs. Thomas Bass of Chandler AFB, Ariz, and Mrs. Harry Pye Jr, of Bucksport; three sons, Charles of Bucksport, Enos of Buckland, Conn., and Sewell Snowman of Bar Harbor; one sister, Mrs. Wendell Leach of Bucksport; several grandchildren, nieces and nephews."
