He was born August 8, 1943, the son of Robert and Eva (Hutchings) Mayhew. He is survived by his two children, Kimberly Smith and husband, Tony, of Cherryfield, and Melissa Hicks and husband, Adam of Deerfield, NH; nine grandchildren: Erin and husband, Erik, Corey and wife, Jordan, Blake and wife, Seaira, Hayden and wife, Becca, Haley and husband, David, Kyle, Adison, Linnea and Drew; twelve great-grandchildren: Nicholas, Emma, Charlotte, Wyatt, Paisley, Emery, Uriah, Bria, Audrina, Lilliana, Everett and Rowan. Carl had many lifelong friends, Dale Woodward, Betty and Roy Engstrom. Carl touched many people through coaching, teaching, land surveying, his affiliation with the Masonic Brotherhood, hunting, racing, snowmobiling and the community. Although our hearts are heavy, we are comforted by the unending love and care we have all received from him. He will be dearly missed but we find peace knowing he has been reunited with the love of his life, Loretta."
