[59435] "The Bangor Daily News [Bangor, Maine]," 30 May 2025: "Deer Isle, Maine - Rick Weed, aka "Dirt Dude," passed on from this life on Saturday, May 24, 2025. His life was taken much too soon, but just 2 weeks ago he was working in his excavator overlooking the waters of Sylvester's Cove. The many people who surrounded him with love in his last days and hours, who visited him in the hospital, and texted him every day was an indicator of how many people looked up to him, loved him, and valued him as a part of their lives. His last days included sharing some of his stories; even the nurses were watching the YouTube video of Quarryography, the only musical theater performance to ever feature an excavator, and with our own Rick Weed as its operator! Rick's impact on people was deep and widespread. We will remember his smile, his stories, his willingness to always lend a hand, his expertise on backhoes, bulldozers and excavators, his appreciation of a beautiful sunset, his dedication for 50-plus years to the Deer Isle Fire Department, his enthusiasm for sports from coaching his own sons, supporting other young athletes, and becoming a loyal Red Sox fan, and his enjoyment of people. Rick, you will be missed by so many. We know you left behind much you still wanted to do and people you wanted to visit. You had a life well-lived and we are all better people for having had you in our lives. We love you. Rick leaves behind his two sons, Josh and Jason; daughter-in-law, Sarah; their mother, Kathy Milan; grandchildren, Finn and Briar; his sister, Joni Wardell and her family; his mother, Beverly Weed; 'stepdaughter,' Denise Grass and her family; and dear friends too numerous to name. He goes on to join in the spirit world his father, Colby Weed; brother, Ronald Weed; grandparents; and most importantly, his very beloved wife, Dona Pare. We like to think of them once again dancing together and watching sunsets."
