[6528] Dorothy resided in the second house north of Devereaux Marine on the river side of the Castine-Orland Road (Route 166). She attended Colby College and graduated from Eastern State Normal School at Castine. She worked many summers at the Wilson Museum and was a Trustee. She was a deacon of the Trinitarian Church in Castine and active in its Dr. Mary Cushman Circle. She was a 70 year member of the Castine Grange. "The Bangor Daily News [Bangor, Maine], 21 Jan 1997," p. 17: "Penobscot - Dorothy (Connor) Farnham 84 died Jan. 17, 1997 at a Penobscot nursing home. She was born April 14, 1912 at Castine, the daughter of Irvin and Emma (Carter) Connor. She was predeceased by her husband, Hollis L., in 1975; four sisters and four brothers. After attending Castine schools and Colby College she graduated from the Castine Normal School. She is survived by her children, Beverly F. Henry of Oradell, N. J., Barbara Willis of Castine, and Dennis Farnham of Penobscot, and was predeceased by her youngest daughter, Rachel Harman. Also surviving are her grandchildren, Edwin R. Henry V of Tempe, Ariz., Nicole H. Florio of Maywood, N.J., Peter Willis of Hookset, NH, Dana Willis of Penobscot, Dennis Farnhom Jr of Bucksport, Teresa Higgins of Lewiston, Debra Farnham of Prospect, Linda Gray of Orland, Michael Harman of Millinocket and Joseph Harman of Castine; two stepgrandchildren, Stephen Farnham of Bucksport and Rosemary Begley of Castine; nine great-grandchildren, three step-great-grandchildren. Dorothy had taught school in East Orland, Franklin and Casco Bay, and had worked many summers at the Wilson Museum in Castine to whose archives she has contributed much knowledge of Castine's history. Many organizations included her in their memberships: 70 years in the Castine Grange and the Eastern Star, member of the Castine Women's Club, the Penobscot Historical Society where she was a life member, and the Mary Cushman Circle. She was a deacon of the Trinitarian Church of Castine and a trustee of the Wilson Museum."
[41361] Mareen Duvall (the immigrant) arrived in America about 1650, eventually settling in Maryland where he became a large landowner. His name in French was Marin. He is a maternal ancestor of President Barack Obama. See "Colonial Families of the Southern States of America: A History and Genealogy of Colonial Families who settled in the Colonies prior to the Revolution, 2nd ed., with Revisions and Additions," Stella Pickett Hardy (Baltimore, MD: Clearfield, 2003), p. 201, which states "The founder of the Duvall family in Maryland, was Mareen Duvall, of 'Middle Plantation,' Anne Arundel Co., Md., b. about 1630-5; d.1694. He was a Huguenot refugee, who came to the Province about the year of 1655, and located on the south side of the South River, upon a tract of land, which was granted to him by Lord Baltimore, by the name of 'Laval;' he was a merchant and planter. He contributed to the public cost of an expedition against the Nanticoke Indians in 1678; appointed by the General Assembly of Maryland, in 1683, a Commissioner to purchase sites and lay out towns, etc., and was a prominent, influential citizen of Anne Arundel Co., Md.; at his death he left a will whereby he bequeathed to his wife and children, several thousand acres of land, silver plate, etc. He m. (first) unknown; (second) Susanna - d 1692; (third) Mary Stanton. His wid. married (second) Col. Henry Ridgely; (third) Rev. Jacob Henderson, Rector of Queen Ann's Parish, Prince George Co., Md."
