[257] Jacob is buried in the "Zion Old Cemetery", one mile north of Freeburg in Snyder Co., PA. He was recognized as a patriot ancestor for DAR membership in December, 2003. He came to Penn Twp. in 1768 and resided one mile west of Freeburg. He served in the French and Indian Wars and as a ranger on the frontier during the War for Independence (in the Northumberland County Militia) - see PA Archives 3rd Series, Vol.19, pp. 502, 571, and Vol. 23, p. 256. and 5th Series, Vol. 8, p. 679 - and perhaps he who is listed in PA Archives, Series 5, Vol. 4, p. 766. He also paid the supply tax in 1782 & 1783. See "Briner Family History," Forrest D. Myers and Jerry A. Clouse (Harrisburg, PA: 1983). "The Snyder County Pioneers," Dr. Charles A. Shriber Auto Parts in Cuyahoga Falls. He was a member of St. Pauls Episcopal Church, Portage Country Club, Downtown Akron Kiwanis Club,Tadmor Shrine and was a 32 degree mason. Preceded in death by wife, Ruthie and son, George A. Shriber Jr.; he is survived by daughter and son-in-law, Deborah and Alan Abbey of Sarasota, Fla.; son and daughter-in-law, Sterling (Scott) and Suzanne Shriber of Akron; daughter-in-law, Carolyn Shriber Laughlinof Bath; six grandchildren andfour great-grandchildren. Services will be held 11 a.m., Tuesday at St. Pauls Episcopal Church with Dr. Richard L. McCandless officiating. Interment at Rose Hill Burial Park."
