Son and heir to Sir John Howard of the same, and Alice de Bois, daughter of Sir Robert. A direct descendant of Henry II of England, Charlemagne, William I of England, Alfred the Great, Hugh Capet and Rurik. Sir Robert was born about 1342. Husband of Margaret de Scales, the daughter of Sir Robert de Scales and Katherine de Ufford. They had one son and one daughter: Sir John and Margaret, wife of Constantine de Clifton. Sir Robert was imprisoned in the Tower of London from 1378 to 1379 for keeping Margaret de Nerford from her grandmother, Lady Alice de Neville. Sir Robert died testate at Eat Winch, Norfolk, 18 July 1388. Margaret married again Sir Walter de Bermingham of Ireland who died before 10 Feb 1401. Margaret left a will dated 08 May 1416, and was buried with her first husband in the south side of the chancel at East Winch, Norfolk."
