[56778] Erma is daughter of Edwin Kelley (1877-1957) & Eliza Edna Faulkingham (1885-1961; m. in 1905 in Milbridge, Washington Co., ME). "The Bangor Daily News [Bangor, Maine]," 1 December 2021: "Milbridge - Erma K. Willey left this world on November 29, 2021, at the Narraguagus Bay Health Care Facility in Milbridge. Erma was born on Feb. 5, 1927, in Milbridge, ME to Eliza Edna (Faulkingham) Kelley and Edwin A. Kelley. Erma graduated from Milbridge High School in the class of 1945. In August of 1946, Erma married Carroll Everett Willey of Cherryfield. Carroll had recently been discharged after serving four years in the Army Air Corps during World War II. They were married by a justice of the peace in Cherryfield, and immediately headed to the blueberry barrens, where their life together as leaseholders on a plot of land for A.L. Stewart was about to begin. Every August from 1946 to 1999 was spent at their second home on Township 18, tending to a blueberry lease for A.L. Stewart and Cherryfield Foods, and spending time with their extended blueberry family which grew in numbers over the years. Hundreds of young people in the Western Washington County area got their first start at raking blueberries with Carroll and Erma on Township 18. Many friends from the Houlton, Maine area and Nova Scotia also became members of this larger blueberry family and many of them remain very close friends of the family today. Along with helping with the blueberry lease, Erma kept the books for Carroll's construction business, worked part time as a waitress for Howard Snell and the Red Barn Restaurant, and drove for the U.S. Postal Service as a substitute for her brother, Bill Kelley. She also worked as a teacher aide at Milbridge Elementary School and In 1968, at 40 years old, decided to go to college to get her degree in elementary education. She graduated 4 years later and worked for 20 years as a grade school teacher at the Ella Lewis School in Steuben. Her 20 year career in education was one of the highlights of her life. Once a teacher, always a teacher, as she found herself later in life, riddled with dementia, referring to her workers at Narraguagus Bay as her students. When she retired from teaching in 1991, she devoted the remainder of her life to taking care of her grandchildren, helping her husband with the blueberry lease, gardening, and being a devoted mother who never went one day in her life without talking, at least once, to both her daughter and her son, either in person or on the phone. In February of 2021, Erma was honored with the Boston Post Cane for being the oldest living resident of Milbridge, and during the Milbridge Days Ceremony in the summer of 2021, she was honored with the position of Grand Marshall in the parade. Erma was predeceased by her husband, Carroll Willey; as well as her sister, Louise Kelley Ingalls; and two brothers, Winfred A. Kelley and William R. Kelley. She is survived by her son, Wayne Willey and his wife, Linda, of Milbridge; a daughter, Lucille Willey and her husband, Don Beal, of Cherryfield. There are six grandchildren, Charemon Davis and her husband, Rick, of Milbridge, Wanese Lynch and her husband, Chuck, of Ellsworth, Travis Willey and his wife, Nicole, of Milbridge; Valerie Sargent and her companion, Shawn Merchant, of Addison, Starley Moffitt, and her companion, Robert Ramsay, of Cherryfield, and Tara Moffitt of Cherryfield; great grandchilden, Austin Ronco and companion, Kate Dickens, Logan Staples, Cole Willey and companion, Chelsea Newall, Madelyn (Maddy) Willey and companion, Carter Patterson, Charles (Chaz) Willey, Abby Lynch and companion, Michael Sargent, Aaron Lynch, Sophia Lynch, Alexandria Sargent, Joseph Sargent, Ronald (KC) Williams, Valerie Mercereux, Ashlyn Cashman, Paidyn Cashman, Grady Cashman, and Eliza Flathers. Erma is also survived by special nieces and nephews, Marilyn Worden, Ronnie Kelley, Nancy Kelley-Cram, and Cathy Simard; as well as two extra daughters she and Carroll picked up along the way, Jeannie Bradbury and Kathy Upton. All of these people, along with many, many more, have been very special in Erma's life and she loved them dearly."
