https://njscuba.net/shipbuildinghistory/us-comm-small/stonington.html offers: "Stonington ME - Stonington Yacht Basin was started by George, Cecil and Sheridan Billings in 1936. It was active in WWII and continued to build boats after the war. It went bankrupt in the 1960s but was bought and reopened by Sheridan's son Dick. It changed its name to Billings Diesel & Marine, Inc., and continues in business today, although it hasn't built a boat recently. Visit the company at billingsmarine.com. The yard has a spectacular location, on Moose Island, just to the west of Stonington. See it from the air on Google here. Note that there is a similarly named yard, Stonington Boat Works, in Stonington CT: this yard is not that yard." This article then lists the many ships built in this yard.
"Bangor Daily News [Bangor, Maine]," 19 May 2000, p. 20: "Stonington - Richard 'Dick' S Billings, 83, died May 16, 2000 at a Blue Hill hospital. He is survived by his loving wife of 58 years, Stella (Fifield) Billings; his two children, his son, Harlan Richard Billings of Stonington and special friend, Sandy Buxton and his daughter, Larna M. Wellman and her husband, Charles of Eddington; four grandchildren, Julie Trendy of Eddington, Lisa Zanke and her husband, Jason of Stonington, Suzette Grindle and her husband, Peter ,Sandra Shepard and her husband, Randy, all of Deer Isle; six greatgrandchildren, Torrie, Justin, Abigail, Sam, Morgan, and Ethan."
