[651] Godfrey "the Bearded", of Brabant, descends from French King Louis IV, German King Henry I "the Fowler", Charlemagne, the Mergovingian Kings of France (from Merovaeus, c.411-458, who defeated Atilla the Hun); his wife Ida of Namur descends from the royal Norwegian house and the early counts of Lorraine and of Namur - Ida m.c.1100, d.1117/22 http://home.wxs.nl/~voort359/home3brabt.html remarks: "On 13-5-1106 Count Godfried was made Duke of Lower-Lorraine by Emperor Heinrich V, but by then the title of Duke, for which his ancestors had fought in vain, had become mostly ceremonial. Emperor Heinrich IV had first given the title to Henri I, Count of Limburg, but after it had been taken away by Heinrich V, the Counts of Limburg kept using it anyway, which of course resulted in a feud with the Counts of Leuven. Godfried succeeded in acquiring Antwerpen, which gave him a connection to his domain Orthen, now part of the city of 's-Hertogenbosch. In 1128 Duke Godfried was deposed by King Lotharius, and Walram III, Count of Limburg was made Duke instead. Godfried managed however to hold on to his possessions."

Egbert is son of King Ealhmund of Wessex who descends from Cerdic, King of the West Saxons (reigned 519-34). Cerdic led the Saxon conquest of Britain from the Briton tribes. Egbert is known as the first king of all England; the chroniclers dub him "Bretwalda", or ruler, of Britain, the first to be described as such. He spent some early years at the court of Charlemagne and was sub-king of Kent before succeeding his cousin to the throne in 802 and "overthrew the Mercian king Beornwulf in 825. This led to the annexation by Wessex of Sussex, Surrey, Kent and Essex and the temporary recognition of West Saxon supremacy by Mercia." {-Encycl.Brit.,`56,23:520} His wife, Raedburh, is said to be a sister of the King of Franks.
