[13765] The 19 April 1930 federal census of Coal Twp., Northumberland Co., PA lists Edward (foreman, silk mill) with wife Mary and children Christine (age 22, public school teacher) and Keith (20, warper in silk mill), and Mary's father, William C. Helwig (77, widowed). "Shamokin News-Dispatch, 20 January 1960," p. 2: "Edward S. Haupt, 79. of 132? West Arch Street, widely known retired salesman and former mill worker, died at 9:30 last night in Northumberland County Institutional Hospital, Trevorton Road, where he had been a medical patient for 10 days. Death, due to a complication, terminated an illness of two years during which Mr. Haupt had been hospitalized several times. A lifelong resident of Shamokin, Mr. Haupt was born September 3, 1830, the son of the late Aaron and Sarah (Seiler) Haupt. He was graduated from Shamokin High School in 1899 and was among the oldest living members of the Shamokin High School Alumni Association. The late Coal Township resident had been employed as a salesman, distributing special diabetic foods to establishments throughout the area. During earlier years he worked as a vault keeper for the former J. H. & C. K. Eagle Silk Company, having charge of the receiving department where pure silk was stored. Mr. Haunt retired from occupational duties approximately three years ago. On October 2, 1906, Mr. Haupt was married to the former Miss Mary Ann Helwig, a native of Numidia. He was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church, and was the last member of his family. Surviving are the widow; one daughter, Mrs. Donald Myers. Shamokin; one son, Howard Keith Haupt, Shamokin, and four grandchildren."

[55538] "The Bangor Daily News [Bangor, Maine]," 2 October 1935, p. 25: "Newport, Oct. 1 - Private funeral services for Hubert Maurice Wardwell were held from his late home Monday with Rev. H. H. Marr of the Methodist church officiating. There was a profusion of floral tributes with many from local business firms and fraternal organizations. The bearers were J. O. Gilman, Perley E. Cary, Fred L. Warren, and C. T. Libbey, and interment was in the family lot at Riverside cemetery. Attending the services from out of town were an only son, Hubert Wardwell, Jr., and Mrs. Wardwell of Concord, Mass.; and daughters, Mrs. Frederic A. Hatch and Dr. Hatch of Bangor; Mrs. William J. D. Ratcliff and Mr. Ratcliff of Peabody, Mass, and a daughter. Miss Virginia Wardwell, who made her home with her parents. Also a brother, Everett C. Wardwell and Mrs. Wardwell ot Watervllle; a sister-in-law, Mrs. Henry Wardwell of Newton Highlands; a nephew, Ernest A. Frye and Mrs. Frye of Albion; a brother-in-law. Frank E. Merrill and Mrs. Merrill, a sister-in-law, Miss Martha Merrill and niece, Mrs. Robert French, and nephew, Phillip Merrill andMrs. Merrill, all of Madison; and a sister-in-law, Ms, (Edward E. Merrill of Bangor. All places of business were closed during the services out of respect to a former prominent business man here. Mr. Wardwell who was born in Bucksport, the son of Albion and Mary Hatch Wardwell and came to Newport in 1881 when he purchased the dry goods business of A. Hobart and Son and which he carried on until 1921 when he retired from active business here. He was president of the E. C. Wardwell and Company in Waterville and kept his interest there until the store was sold in 1928. Mr. Wardwell was always interested and active in all local civic enterprises, was the first president of the Newport Trust Company, a position he held many years, was a regular attendant of the Methodist church, a past noble grand and many years a trustee of Old Hickory lodge, I. O. O. F and a charter member of Victoria Rebekah lodge, a Mason and past worthy patron of Nokomis Chapter, O. E. S. He married Miss Cordelia Merrill of Newport in 1890 and her death occurred suddenly last March while attending the State Convention of the Daughters of the American Revolution in Bangor."
