[5569] Marjory Bruce was King Robert's eldest daughter & the only surviving child from his first marriage to Isabella of Mar. She was born before (though probably not long before) 9 July 1297, when the English demanded her father hand her over as a hostage to guarantee his future good behaviour. Robert does not seem to have surrendered Marjory in 1297, but in 1306 she was captured alongside her step-mother Elizabeth, aunts Christina & Mary, & Isabella, countess of Buchan. Marjory spent the next eight years as a prisoner in England. She was nearly displayed in a cage like her aunt Mary and Countess Isabella, but probably due to her youth was instead held at a nunnery at Watton in Norfolk. Marjory was released as part of a prisoner exchange after Bannockburn in 1314, & in April 1315 she consented to having her position in the line of succession reduced in order to increase the likelihood that her father would be succeeded by an adult male. This could not be achieved without Marjory's consent - if it was, it would have been done while she was a prisoner in England - & her seal appears third (after her father's & her uncle's) on the document that ratified this arrangement. Marjory was unmarried in April 1315, but probably soon after she married Walter Stewart, one of her father's close allies, Sadly, by 3 December 1318, Marjory was described as 'the lady Marjory of honourable memory', indicating that she died before that date (in her early twenties at most). She was buried at Paisley Abbey, where part of her tomb survives (pictured). Her son, named Robert after his grandfather, who eventually become King Robert II in 1371, beginning the Stewart dynasty. See https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Marjorie_Bruce.
