"Aiken Standard" and "North Augusta Star" 7 September 2017: "Aiken - Richard Owen Jr., 86, passed away peacefully on Sunday, September 3, 2017. He is survived by Ann Paxton Owen, his beloved wife of 29 years; his children, John Owen (Karen), Pam May (Dean), and step-son Doug Brown (Rebecca); his sister Bertha Jane Dunavant (Jack); grandchildren, Andy Owen, Jack Owen, Jenny Owen, Ryan May, Sarah Nicole May, Matthew Jordan, Reid Brown, Annabelle Brown, Wilkes Brown and Ivy Brown, and a son-in-law, Tom Jordan. Mr. Owen was born January 6, 1931 in South Boston, Virginia to the late Richard Owen Sr. and the late Sarah Wade Owen. He was a graduate of Washington and Lee University and proudly served his country in the U.S. Navy during the Korean War. He retired as a Sales Executive with IBM after 33 years of service, having been located in many different cities, one of his favorite, being London, England. Mr. Owen and his wife Ann loved to entertain family and friends; he enjoyed reading, games, puzzles and together with Ann, enjoyed their beautiful gardens. He and Ann enjoyed traveling the world, with his favorite city being 'San Francisco by the Bay.' An avid runner, he participated in the Peachtree Road Race in Atlanta for 25 consecutive years. He will be remembered as a stylish and charming Southern gentleman and a wonderful husband, father, grandfather and friend. In addition to his parents, Mr. Owen is preceded in death by two sisters, Sue Dutrow and Sarah Wade Owen and a step-daughter, Loren Brown Jordan."
