"The Perry County Times, 29 June 1911," p. 1: "Sheaffer's Valley, June 27, 1911 - Jacob Lightner, whose sickness we made mention of in last week's Issue of The Times, died Wednesday night at 9 o'clock p. in. Tbe deceased was a sou of William and Frances (Sheaffer) Lightner and was born in Sheaffer's Valley, Tyrone township, on the farm occupied by Samuel M. Lightner, July 29, 1852, and at the time of his demise was aged 59 years, 10 months and 22 days. He spent the earlier days of his life on the farm where he was born. His father being a carpenter, learned the trade and worked at that until he purchased the farm where he resided prior to his death, a period of seventeen years. Jan. 19th, 1876, he was united in wedlock to Catharine Elizabeth Weaver, daughter of George and Susana Weaver, of Tyrone township. From this union three sons: Sheridan and George Roy, of Mannsville, and Russel, of Rossville, York county, and wife survive. The following brothers and sisters survive: Joseph B., of Loysville, Samuel M, and Benjamin, of Sheaffer's Valley, Tyrone township; Reuben, of Piedmont, Virginia, when last beard from; Mrs, Laura Swarner, of Loysville; Mrs. Annie Kutz, of North Middletown township, Cumberland county; Mrs. Jennie Davidson, of Lincoln, Nebraska, and Mrs. Mary Power, of Landisburg, Pa. The deceased was a member of the Reformed church at Loysville, having joined under the pastorate of Rev. C. H.Brandt. He was a member of Jr. O. U. A. M Council No. 707 of Landisburg. In politics be was an ardent republican, a firm supporter of Its principles. He served a term of school director and supervisor in the year 1889. The community has lost a good citizen and an honest and upright man, the wife, an affectionate husband; the children, a loving father, and the neighborhood, a generous neighbor. He was of a quiet and industrious disposition and frugal in his habits. He will be missed in the home and in the community. Funeral services were held at his late residence Sunday morning at 10 o'clock, Rev. Roy E. Leinbach, officiating. Text, "And it is appointed unto man once to die," Hebrews 9-27. Interment in the Loysville cemetery. The funeral rites of the Jr. American Mechanics were held at tbe grave."
