[39874] An unverified file in Ancestry.com in 2015 offers: "Anna Barbara Lehr was born on April 2, 1799, in Pennsylvania, the child of Johan Peter and Maria Catharine. She had seven sons and four daughters with Johannes "John" Hubler between 1820 and 1844. She died on May 31, 1876, in Pine Grove, Pennsylvania, having lived a long life of 77 years, and was buried there."
William appears to be son of _____ Malet, a descendant of Robert (son of Maleth, living 990), and a daughter of Leofric (ID3229) and Godiva (ID3230)[see "Falaise Roll..." table cited for ID3229]. William was entrusted to guard the body of King Harold at Hastings. Carr P. Collins, Jr., "Royal Ancestors of Magna Charta Barons" (Dallas: 1959), pp. 176 & 258, suggests that William, "Lord Malet," was Governor of York Castle and a General and Companion of William the Conqueror, that he may be a brother of King Harold's wife, that he is called a grandson of Godiva of Mercia, and that his wife is Hesilla (Elsie) Crispin - and offers a chart showing Hesilla as daughter of Gilbert Crispin and William as son of Alfgar III (Earl of Mercia) and wife Princess Elfgifu (dau. of King Ethelred II of England)(Alfgar III is son of Earl Leofric III and Lady Godiva). Gilbert de Gand and Robert Fitz Richard were also commanders in this expedition. The following year he was besieged in the castle of York by Edgar, the Saxon prince, and was only saved from surrender by the timely arrival of the Conqueror. In the same year he was attacked by the Danes, who captured the city of York with great slaughter and took William Malet, his wife and children, prisoners, but their lives were spared, as was that of Gilbert de Gand, for the sake of their ransoms. There is evidence that he was slain in this year, but it is uncertain and the date of his death is unknown. An entry in Domesday that 'William Malet was seized of this place (Cidestan, Co. Suffolk), where he proceeded on the King's service where he died," would indicate that his death occurred during the compilation of that book. He was witness to a charter of King William to the church of St. Martin-le-Grand, in London, and is there styled 'princeps,' which title, however, was honorary and not hereditary, having ceased with his death.'"

'Jack' Vail, 68, of 18 Sherwood Drive died Tuesday afternoon in the Cleveland Clinic. Mr. Vail was born Oct. 27, 1925, in Newark, Ohio. He was a retired vice president for UFORMA Shelby Business Forms, where he worked for 45 years, and a member of the board of directors of the First National Bank of Shelby. A Navy veteran of World War II, he was a member of the First United Methodist Church, Shelby Masonic Lodge 350 F&AM, Shelby Chapter 178 RAM, the Mansfield Council and the Mansfield Commandery. Mr. Vail is survived by his wife, Betty J. Bly Vail, whom he married May 24, 1947; two sons and daughters-in-law, Franz and Janet Kelley-Vail of Pembroke, N.H., and Eric and Dianne Vail of Shelby; a daughter and son-in-law, Deborah and Bruce Nayowith of Rhinebeck, N.Y.; seven grandchildren, Arika Vail, Gunnar Babcock, Brooke Babcock, Samuel Kelley-Vail, Julia Kelley-Vail, Tessa Nayowith and Hannah Nayowith; and a sister and brother-in-law, Marianne and Kenneth Gates of Shelby. He was preceded in death by his father, Hubert J. Vail Sr., and his mother and stepfather, Cora and Franz Hall."
