[54350] "The Bangor Daily News [Bangor, Maine]," 10 February 1917, p. 16: "Died in Franklin, Feb. 8, Hon. William W. Bragdon, aged 83 years, 3 months and 7 days. Mr. Bragdon had been in poor health for more than year; up to that time his strong mind was as clear as ever and he took great interest in world problems. He had for many years been a leading citizen of Franklin, where he was born and always lived. He served the town many years as selectman, treasurer and school supervisor; his leading occupation was farming; but he was very versatile, he taught school, acted as surveyor, made many legal papers, as deeds, and was constantly sought as an advisor both as to public and private business. He served his representative district in the legislature of 1872, and subsequent to this, served two terns in the Senate from Hancock county - the last term in 1878. He was an able participant in all important questions arising during these terms of service. He married Miss H. Elizabeth Donnell, sixty years ago, and she proved herself to be a most devoted and helpful wife. Three children were born to them, one son died at the age of 22, and a daughter at the age of 18. He is survived by his faithful companion, one son, W. E. Bragdon, and three grandchildren. About 17 years ago he moved into the village where he built a fine residence, in which he has since resided."

[20431] Elizabeth's siblings and ancestry are from Frances Stephen's handwritten manuscript (27 July 1974) as transcribed for James M. Scruggs. This ancestry is not verified! Ann Scruggs Piper wrote South Carolina under Elizabeth's death date on a note in a silver chest. James M. Scruggs wrote in 2000: "On December 22, 1868, Wm Hudson took as his second wife, Elizabeth Isabelle Cooper, born June 19, 1828 in Abbeville District, South Carolina, daughter of Joseph Cooper (1777-1842) and Sarah Ann Franklin (1788-1874), and a sister of the Reverend Wm B. Cooper. Son Richard would knit the two families even closer in May 1869 with his marriage to Margaretta Frances, a daughter of Reverend Cooper." Her www.findagrave.com memorial states "Elizabeth's niece, Margaretta Cooper, married her step-son, Richard Scruggs, in 1869. And another niece, Sarah Eugenia Cooper married Randolph Ridgeland Beville, who was Dollie Beville Scruggs' brother (Dollie was the 1st wife of another one of her step-son's, Solomon Mathers Scruggs)." Among family notes of Ann Scruggs is a notation "Eliz Isabelle Scruggs April 30, 1885."
