[61473] "The Bangor Daily News [Bangor, Maine], 11 February 2026: "Mechanicsburg, PA, Pennsylvania - Ada Hersey Sloane, age 84, of Mechanicsburg, PA, passed away on Tuesday, February 3, 2026, at her home while surrounded by her loving family. Born October 9, 1941, in Bangor, ME, she was the daughter of the late Hobart and Sarah 'Sally' (Whitten) Hersey. Ada was a graduate of the University of Maine where she was a member of the Pi Beta Phi Sorority. She went on to teach 2nd grade in Massachusetts after graduation. After marrying her husband in Hawaii in 1964, she traveled the world as an Army officer's wife, including 4 years spent in Europe and with the British. Ada worked as a substitute teacher in both Wisconsin and Louisiana, served as head of the PTO, and also worked as a commercial loan officer for PNC Bank in New Jersey and Pennsylvania. She was an active 40-year member of Silver Spring Presbyterian Church in PA, serving as an elder and Bible study leader. Ada was a voracious reader, and her favorite thing to do was relaxing over the water on the dock in Maine. She is survived by her loving husband of 62 years, Col. Robert Lindley Sloane, Ed.D., USA Retired; her two daughters, Lynn Sloane Brown of Ludlow, KY, and Susan Lenor Sloane of Virginia Beach, VA; her two grandchildren, Shawn and Erin Brown, both of Covington, KY; and her sister, Lenor Hersey of Mechanicsburg, PA. Ada was preceded in death by her grandson, Ryan Brown; and by her sister, Mary Ellen Blanchard."
