[58230] "The Bangor Daily News [Bangor, Maine]," 10 July 2023: "Brewer - Michael J. Colson of Brewer, ME, age 64, passed away at his brother's home in Orrington, Maine, after a short battle with lung cancer on Wednesday, June 28, 2023. He was born July 14, 1958, in Limestone, Maine, the son of Gifford and Sylvia (Theriault) Colson. He was a graduate of Hampden Academy and he proudly served four years in the US Air Force. Michael was a life-long learner with numerous talents. A creative craftsman, Michael produced multiple desks of high quality for himself and his sons, and he had a knack for utilizing unconventional materials to produce a very unique canoe and several sheds. He was very interested in technology in his early years, and was accomplished in the assembly and maintenance of electronics, spending many hours working on computers, gadgets, and communicating with people over his HAM radio. Michael was a proud and loyal union member of IBEW 2327. He spent the vast majority of his nearly thirty year career working for the local telephone company in multiple roles, and was proud to support his brothers and sisters on the picket lines when the need arose. For his innovative efforts developing a computer application for the company, Michael was honored with a Pride award and multiple luxury trips to New York and Bermuda that he was extremely proud of. An avid outdoorsman, Michael spent a great deal of time with his brother-in-law Jason, fishing, four-wheeling, sledding, kayaking, you name it, they did it. Always up for a game, Michael enjoyed playing horseshoes, darts, volleyball, badminton, even tennis on occasion. Notably, he was quite the pool shark, and more than capable of running a table against anyone foolish enough to bet against him. Michael cared a great deal for his family, and would make time to help them whenever they needed his support or assistance, and rarely asked for anything in return. The early loss of his brother, Allen, affected him greatly. In spite of losses throughout his life, Michael remained a tenacious and resilient man, strong-willed, opinionated, and independent to the very end. Michael is survived by his sons, Kristopher Everett of Saco, ME, and Jacob Colson of Pittsburgh, PA; his mother, Sylvia Colson of Bangor, ME; brother, Ernest Colson and wife, Linda, of Orrington, ME; sisters, Rose Marie Dunton of Bangor, ME, and Linda Seekins of Winterport, ME; nieces and nephews, Danny, David, Dennis, Renee, Roger, Diane, Robert, Melinda, and Jaymi; and grandchildren, Jasmine, Konstantine, Mia, and Mina. He was predeceased by his father, Gifford; brothers, Sylvio and Allen; and niece, Kristen."
