He was born April 19, 1947, in Castine, the only child of William L. and Jane E. (Burgess) Harriman. He was educated in Bucksport Schools and was a graduate of Bucksport High School, Class of 1965. He earned his Eagle Scout in 1962. He learned to fly in 1966 at the Belfast airport. Richard served in the U.S. Air Force during the Vietnam War as a load master and flight engineer on C-130s from 1966-1970. He retired from International Paper's Bucksport mill in 2000 after 35 years of service. He was a member of Rising Sun Lodge No. 71 AF & AM, Hancock Chapter No. 19. Richard was an avid outdoorsman who valued self sufficiency and enjoyed hunting, fishing, and flying his Cessna 180. He was often accompanied by a beloved dog. He was predeceased by his parents. He is survived by his wife and partner, Sheryl Harriman, of Prospect; three children, Richard J. Harriman Jr. and his wife, Bonnie, of Hudson, Rhonda Wong and her husband, Kurtis, of Spokane, WA, and John W. 'J.W.' Harriman, of Prospect; two granddaughters, Sophia Camacho and her husband, Thomas, of Port Orchard, WA, and Myla Jane Wong, of Spokane, WA.
