[1693] Leo VI reigned 886-912 as Emperor at Constantinople. "Ancestral Roots..." (7th Edition, 1992), notes re: line 141A: "Uncertain whether Leo was son of Michael or of Basil" by Eudocia Ingerina, mistress of Michael III and later wife of Basil I. "The Oxford Dictionary of Byzantium" (NY: Oxford U. Press, 1991), II:1263, shows Leo as son of Basil I, founder of the Macedonian dynasty, and Eudocia Ingerina. http://www.san.beck.org/AB15-ByzantineEmpire.html reports "After his first wife Theaphano died in 897, Leo VI married his mistress Zoe a few months later; but she died without a son in 899. Leo then married the Phrygian Eudocia Baiana the next summer even though a third marriage violated the canon laws Leo had just codified, and the church complained; yet in 901 she died in child-birth, soon followed by the child. Disliking his brother Alexander, Leo wanted a son, and in 905 Zoe Carbonopsina gave him one. Patriarch Nicholas Mysticus baptized the boy Constantine the following January as the Emperor promised to separate from Zoe. Yet three days later in a private ceremony Leo married Zoe and proclaimed her Augusta. The angry Patriarch forbade the Emperor to enter a church on Christmas or Epiphany. So Leo received a dispensation from Pope Sergius III and forced Nicholas to resign, appointing the pliant Euthymius. In 911 Leo crowned his son Constantine Co-emperor. When Leo died of illness the next year, the hated Alexander became Emperor with the young Constantine as his colleague."

"The Ellsworth American [Ellsworth, Maine]," 28 September 2023: "Brooklin - Carlton C. Gray Sr. passed away on Sept. 26, 2023, at home in Brooklin. He was born Oct. 12, 1931, in Brooksville, the first-born son of Walter C. and Margaret (Segar) Gray. The family soon moved to Brooklin, where Carlton lived nearly his entire life. He graduated from Brooklin High School in 1950 along with his younger brother Belford. Soon after high school, Carlton married Evelyn M. Ryder of Ellsworth. Together, they raised four sons. Carlton worked as a carpenter and builder, first with his father, and later with youngest son, Jerry. Carlton was active in the community, coaching Little League baseball, serving on the Brooklin Volunteer Fire Department, and was a past member of the Brooklin Oddfellow's Lodge. Carlton and Evelyn enjoyed square dancing and made many friends around eastern Maine and Canada. They also enjoyed camping with family and friends, often combining the camping trips with square dancing events. Evelyn passed in 1994 after a 13-year battle with breast cancer. Years later, Carlton reconnected with Roberta Staples Allen, a high school classmate, and they maintained a special relationship until Carlton's death. Known for his memory of Brooklin history, Carlton donated many photographs and documents to the Brooklin Keeping Society. Carlton was predeceased by his parents, wife Evelyn, brother Belford, granddaughter Lily, and grandson Christopher. Carlton is survived by his four sons, Carlton Jr. and wife Paige of Dudley, N.C., Scott, of Fort Walton Beach, Fla., Stuart and wife Laura of East Blue Hill, and Jerry and wife Laurie of Brooklin. Carlton is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren, and by dear friend, Elizabeth Hutchins. Carlton's most cherished relationships include Roberta Allen and grandson Josh Gray."
Carlton and the family have been grateful for the loving care provided by Scott and Kathy Holden, and by Susan Gray. The family also thanks the staff of Northern Light Blue Hill Hospital and of Northern Light Hospice for the compassionate and professional care they provided. Carlton especially enjoyed the compassionate care and friendship of Northern Light Hospice worker Nancy, who came nearly every day and had a special bond with Carlton.
[40639] John served as a Patriot in the War for Independence. He is son of John Keller (1733 - 1792) and Maria Margaret Drach (1736 - 1797) Ancestry.com offers: "Keller Name Meaning - German: from Middle High German kellaere 'cellarman', 'cellar master' (Latin cellarius, denoting the keeper of the cella 'store chamber', 'pantry'). Hence an occupational name for the overseer of the stores, accounts, or household in general in, for example, a monastery or castle. Kellers were important as trusted stewards in a great household, and in some cases were promoted to ministerial rank. The surname is widespread throughout central Europe. English: either an occupational name for a maker of caps or cauls, from Middle English kellere, or an occupational name for an executioner, from Old English cwellere."
