[57616] "The Ellsworth American [Ellsworth, Maine]," 5 October 2024: "Ellsworth - It is with a great deal of sadness that the family of Lloyd Frederick Beal announces his passing at home on Oct. 2, 2024, after a long and difficult battle with dementia. Lloyd was born on April 10, 1954, the son of Norma (Smith) and Sheldon 'Ted' Beal of Ellsworth, where he lived, worked and raised his family. He was a 1972 graduate of Ellsworth High School. During his high school years Lloyd played in a 4-member band called the Harbor Lights, and quiet Lloyd of all things played the drums! People who knew him would remember him keeping shop in the family business, Beals Jewelry Store, in downtown Ellsworth, where he worked for 46 years before the onset of the dementia. As a young family Lloyd, Karen, Ben and Kate enjoyed snowmobiling, boating, and later Lloyd and Karen became avid vegetable gardeners proudly delivering veggies to neighbors and anyone else who would take the zucchini."

NOTE: Most researchers do NOT believe that the Mary shown here is his daughter!
Ninian Beall "came as an indentured Cromwellian Prisoner, served thirty-five years, lived to be 92, was six feet, 7 inches tall.... His thrift and perseverance made him an outstanding character of his day. He lived at `Fife Large', near what is now Georgetown, D.C." Georgetown is named for his youngest son, George. "The Beall family were people who stood pioneer life with fine physique...." - "Register of Maryland's Heraldic Families," Alice Norris Parran (Balt.: H.G.Roebuck & Son), p. 59. Ninian was Burgess, 1684; gave land for Presbyterian Church and presented it a silver Communion Service. Mary is not on the list of his known children! Largo, his birthplace, is on a lovely bay along the Firth of Forth NE of Edinburgh, Scotland. The surname Beal(l) or Bell is said to derive from ancient Druid priests known as "Na Belich" or the priests of Baal. There were 18 Beal, Beale and Bell immigrants to Maryland before 1700, and various Ninians, mostly from Scotland.
Ninian was a devout Presbyterian and helped begin the congregation in Calvert County, MD - he sent to Scotland for a pastor and in 1685 the Rev. Nathaniel Taylor and his congregation arrived (about 25 families, believed to include Mary and Sarah Beall/Bell). They were given land in present-day Prince George's County. Sarah m. into the Magruder family, which was close to Ninian. The Presbyterian settlement is now New Scotland, MD.
And internet correspondent reported (4/99) that his family history notes that Ninian Bell became Ninian Beall after he was captured by the English at the battle of Dunbar (1650).
Ninian Beall was original owner of much of present-day Washington, D.C. and a member of the Maryland Assembly. His heirs sold part of his estae but son George held on to a large piece along the Potomac River. By 1740 merchants and farmers were shipping tobacco from a wharf in a locale called Saw Pit Landing, which had been purchased from George Beall. In 1746 the colonial government of Maryland set up an inspection station in George Gordon's warehouse where Wisconsin Avenue and M Street intersect today. A sixty-acre town was laid out along the Potomac in the warehouse vicinity in 1751, at first called the Town of George and later Georgetown.
A Ninian Beall, around 1790, sold 330 acres of his vast holdings in southeast Washington to William Benning, who built a bridge across the Anacostia River and a house which survived well into the 20th century. After Benning died, his nephew Anthony purchased the farm, and in turn sold it in 1833 to Levi Sheriff, a Maryland merchant. Over the next decade Sheriff amassed 542 aces and owned 19 slaves who worked the land. Sheriff Road in southeast Washington and Prince Georges County, Maryland is named for him.

"The News Item, 10 November 2016" offers: "Sophia Yasalonis, 91, of New Cumberland, passed away peacefully Monday, Nov. 7, 2016, at Thornwald Home in Carlisle.
Sophia was born May 8, 1925, in Coal Township, a daughter of John and Johanna (Juarz) Kanowicz. Sophia graduated from Coal Township High School in 1942. Following graduation, she worked for the nearby Eagle Silk Mill. Sophia dedicated her life to her family and loved being a mother and wife. She was a devoted partner to her husband of 58 years, John J. Yasalonis, and showered her children with love, support and the teachings of her faith. She used her gift of hospitality by opening her home to family and friends alike for every family celebration. She helped those in need, comforted those who mourned, prayed fervently for others, served friends and strangers alike and loved all. Sophia enjoyed cooking, baking and gardening. Being a college football fan, she often spoke of and provided statistics for her beloved Penn State football team. One of Sophia's greatest pleasures was sending and receiving thousands of greeting cards over the years to all of her relatives and friends. She always included a custom drawn picture of flowers and hearts to brighten their day. She is survived by four sons, John W. Yasalonis and his wife, Josephine, of Bel Air, Maryland, Steven J. Yasalonis and wife, Kathy, of Enola. Michael J. Yasalonis and wife, Susan, of Camp Hill, and Alan Yasalonis and his wife Nancy, of Yardley; eight grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren and many wonderful nieces and nephews. A long-time matriarch, she is preceded in death by her parents and all 13 of her siblings; and by her husband, John."
