[55200] "The Bangor Daily News [Bangor, Maine]," 17 November 2023: "Camden - Helen Marston Chater slipped her mooring on November 15, 2023, just after sunset, following a stroke in the company of her daughters and her oldest and youngest grandchildren at the Sussman House. She was born at home in Rockport on May 12, 1926, to parents Alice Small Marston and Charles Atwood Marston. On a winter day, in 1942, she met a young man, Avard "Bud" Chater, from Camden, while skating on the Lily Pond in Rockport. Their lives together were inseparable from that point on. They endured World War II and, upon Bud's return from the war, they married on June 15, 1946. They bought a piece of property from Bud's father in Camden, at the edge of the Rockport border and built their own home piece by piece. They had three daughters, Sally, Carol, and Karyn. Together they raised their daughters, danced, built camps, grew gardens, raised German Shepherds and honeybees, traveled the world and the coast of Maine, camped, ?shed, and provided endless support and love to everyone in their world. Helen was an exceptional candlepin bowler and croquet player with a determined competitive streak that belied her gentle nature. Helen will always be remembered for her sparkling giggle, her endless generosity, her amazing recollection of the past, and, of course, her undying love of the Red Sox. She is survived by her daughters, Sally Kelley of Topsham, Carol Chater and her partner, Stewart Valentine, of Appleton, and Karyn Goodwin and her husband, Vaughn, of Hope; grandchildren, Katie Winglass, Beth Kelley, Jonathan Priest, Joel Priest, Meghan Bresnahan and Christopher Bresnahan; step-grandchildren, Tom and Hannah Goodwin; great-grandchildren, Sarah, Ethan, Mae, Clara, Rowan, Griffin, Curtis, Julia, Lauryn, Colin and Alison; great-great-grandson, RJ; and many nieces and nephews and their families. She was predeceased by her husband, her parents, her siblings and most of her friends."

Sanders on February 7, 1948, in Bryan, and he preceded her in death on March 18, 2011. Surviving are two sons, Thomas Sanders, of Bryan, and Steven (Cheryl) Sanders, of Fredericktown, Ohio; one daughter, Nancy (Samuel) Baker, of Holgate, Ohio; three grandchildren, Jason, Jamie and Adam Sanders; three step grandchildren, Stephanie, Sarah and Steven Wicks; and ten great-grandchildren, Jenna, Spencer, Ellianna, Levi and Anna Sanders, Bayli, Eric, Aden and Zebrianne Sanders and Gage Wicks. She was also preceded in death by three sisters, Marian and Marjorie Shearer and Marguerite McNamee."

He was a caring husband, father, stepfather, and grandfather; and always followed his children's and grandchildren's activities. He is survived by his wife, Betsy King of Guilford; 2 sons, Matthew Turner of Hudson, and James Turner and his fiancé, Sherry Crawford of Stetson; a daughter, Allison Butler and her husband, Jeffrey of Atkinson; 2 step-children, Valerie and Ian King both of Guilford; 2 brothers, Fred Turner and his wife, Prudy of Willimantic, and Brian Turner and his wife, Cindy of Monson; grandchildren, Tad, Nathan, Bailey, Miranda, Jacob, Hiram, Silas, and one unborn grandchild that he was hoping to meet."

Find A Grave Memorial 36087409 offers: "Samuel Weaver who came to Decatur fifty five years ago with only $.2.50 in his pocket and for years said to be the richest farmer living on his own land in Macon county died at 3 oclock Thursday afternoon at his home in Hickory Point township worth over half a million dollars. His death was caused by heart and kidney trouble and was not unexpected. He had been rapidly declining for several months and during the past few weeks it was known that his life hung by a thread. For a week his death had been expected at any time. Mr.Weaver was the son of Mr. and Mrs.Conrad Weaver and was born in Pa,Oct 1821. He was the fourth in a family of ten children.His father died in 1841. Samuel remained at home till sometime after his fathers death. When he started out to make his own way he came west. He had served two years as a blacksmiths apprentice in Carlisle, Pa for only his board and clothing but he had plenty of pluck and knew he could get along in the west if any one could. He and Miss Sarah Saller were married in Pa. in 18?0 and that same year they started on their westward journey arriving here with one team and a wagon in October. He is survived his children, Alfred,Charles, Mrs.John Kester, Mrs. Mary Lehman and Mrs. Crossman all of Macon county."

[52834] "Bngor Daily News [Bangor, Maine]," 16 October 2021: "Augusta - Curtis Winslow West passed away at the age of 99, peacefully in his sleep at the Maine Veterans Home in Augusta on October 11, 2021. Curt, as he liked to be called, was born in Steuben, Maine on July 1, 1922. He was one of 12 children born to Gladys A. (Beal) and Thaddeus L. West. Growing up in the 1920s and 30s there was plenty of work to do on the homestead as well as lobstering. Curt has recalled many memories helping 'Papa' (his dad) build and take care of the lobster traps. In 1939 Curt enlisted in the Maine National Guard and later joined the U.S. Army with the 43rd Infantry Division Artillery. He fought in the Northern Solomon Islands, New Guinea and Luzon in the Philippine Islands. Curt was the only one in his unit who knew how to run the Commanding General's 42' high-speed boat while they were in New Guinea and Luzon. The General's name for Curt was 'herrin' choker', and the General often declared, 'Herrin' choker is the only one I trust to operate my boat properly.' Curt saved many lives in rescue missions amidst rough seas. He was awarded the following medals: the Bronze Star, Good Conduct World War II Victory Medal, American Defense Service Medal, Philippine Liberation Medal with one bronze star, Asiatic-Pacific Theater Medal with three bronze stars and one Bronze Service Arrowhead and the American Campaign Medal for Service. In 2018, Curt received the Maine Silver Star Honorable Service Medal and Certificate for his service during WWII. Curt was also presented with a challenge coin by the Maine National Guard. Curt met his future wife, Dolly (Dorothy) Foster from Brookline, Massachusetts while he was studying at Northeast University on the G.I. Bill. Curt and Dolly were married on November 14, 1947 and soon after, they moved to the Boothbay region where their son, John, was born and several years later daughter, Debbie. Curt lobstered when he first came to Boothbay Harbor and also worked with Albert Herald before joining Central Maine Power Company in the Boothbay Harbor office. He retired in 1984 from Central Maine Power after 35 years so he could care for his wife, Dolly, who had cancer. Dolly passed away in March of 1986. Curt was active in many organizations in the community and held many positions in those groups: The Boothbay Harbor Methodist Church, the Knights of Pythias, Masons, Eastern Star, Boothbay Harbor Rotary Club, the Fish and Game Club, Seaside Riders Snowmobile Club and American Legion to name a few. Curt also started his own business of small engine repair that he retired from in 2016 after he had rotator cuff surgery. He was also well-known on the Peninsula for making pies and popovers. Curt, along with Sherwood Leighton, ran the bean-hole bean suppers at the Methodist Church for well over 30 years. They were gifted two old cast-iron pits by the Reverend Fowle who also shared the secret recipe with them. One of the cast-iron pots now resides at the Hendricks Hill Museum in Southport. It was presented to the Museum docents, Jean Thomson and Evelyn Sherman in May 2019. Curt also enjoyed his weekly golf outings with 'The boys.' Every Thursday this group of friends met to go golfing during the spring and summer, then during the fall and winter they still met to go to breakfast. Even though during the winter months there may only have been two of them, they still went for breakfast. This tradition continued until the Covid-19 pandemic struck in 2020. Curt is predeceased by his wife, Dorothy 'Dolly' Ann Foster in 1986. He is survived by his son, John L. West and wife Diane (Barter) of Wiscassett, Maine; his daughter, Debbie Ann Prouty and husband, Tom of Jefferson, Maine; granddaughter, Sarah Edith Prouty Foster and her husband, Jake, of Turner, Maine, and his pride and joy, great-grandson, Corbin Winslow Foster; also his two sisters, Priscilla Kennedy of Steuben, Maine; and Margaret "Peg" Grant of Southwest Harbor, Maine; along with several nieces and nephews."
