[1865] Clothaire II was King of the Franks, 617-629; he was King of Soissons, 584-613. He signed the "Perpetual Constitution" in 614/615, an early "Magna Charta." Lindemans gives the mother of his son Charibert II as Sichilda (second wife). See http://mapage.noos.fr/anosteo/Merovingiens01.html which states he m. (1) Hadeltrude, (2) Bérétrude and (3) Sichilde, "soeur de Gométrude qui était la femme de Dagobert Ier, roi de Metz (Austrasie) et de Paris (Neustrie)." Cf. Edward James, "The Franks" (Basil Blackwell, 1988), and Patrick J. Geary, "Before France and Germany" (Oxford U. Press, 1988). http://www.art-science.com/Ken/Genealogy/PD/ch47_Girls.html offers: "Clothaire II must have been relieved when his mother died at the ripe old age, for then, of 53 but he was not to be left in peace by the on-going war of the siblings. He came under the influence of St. Arnulf (or Arnold), Bishop of Metz (patron saint of brewers...) & Pepin of Landen, Duke of Brabant. They pursuaded him to make an effort to overthrow Brunhilda, now manipulating her grandson, which he did, aided by the general irritation of the (male) aristocracy with her clinging to power for so long. He captured the 68 year old lady, tortured her for three days (details not available for the prurient), then had her dragged to her death over the dreadful roads of the time by a wild horse. What he did to Sigebert II, whom he also killed, we do not know but it probably does not bear thinking about. He was now King of Austrasia & Burgundy as well as Neustria but his savagery to Brunhilda was that of a weak man, not a strong one. Pepin of Landen ran the country as Mayor of the Palace (Prime Minister) but lost his grip when Clothaires son Dagobert I came of age. Pepin's daughter Begga married Arnulfs son, Anseghisel, and they started the Carolingian dynasty. However, Arnulf was also the grandfather of Valtrude of Verdun, so he is multiply a Delaforce." [48144] "Globe-Gazette [Mason City, Iowa], 19 September 2000," p . 10: "Hansell - Funeral services for Verla (Ritzman) Penticoff will be held 10 a.m. Wednesday at the Hansell United Methodist Church in Hansell, with the Rev. Julie Poore-Christensen officiating. Burial will be at the Ingham Township Cemetery. Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. today at the Sietsema Vogel Funeral Home in Hampton. Memorials may be directed to the family to be divided among North Iowa Hospice, cancer research and the Hansell United Methodist Church. Today we pay tribute to Verla (Ritzman) Penticoff, who was born on July 14, 1926, in Butler County. She was the daughter of Vern Sr. and Flossie (Truax) Ritzman. Verla was baptized on the 4th day of April, 1946. Verla was raised on a farm south of Dumont. She attended Clutterville rural school in Madison Township for eight years and graduated from Dumont High School in 1946. After graduation, during World War II, she worked in the hemp plant at Hampton. She also worked at the Marshall Canning Co. for several years and then at Davies Manufacturing Co. until she was married. On Feb. 21, 1947, she was united in marriage to Ray 'Jack' Penticoff at the United Methodist Church in Troy, Kan. They celebrated their 53rd anniversary this millennium year. To this union a daughter, Rita Mae, was born. Verla joined the Hansell United Methodist Church on the 4th day of March 1953 and attended there until her health prevented her from doing so. Verla and Jack farmed north of Hansell all their married life. Verla loved the outdoors, her flowers, gardening, mowing and helping out where needed. She enjoyed snowmobiling and motorcycling with friends in the area. Verla was a great helpmate to her husband and a wonderful mother. She taught Sunday school for 13 years. She also taught Bible school and enjoyed helping with the Hansell United Methodist Church functions. On Sunday the 17th day of September, 2000, Verla went to her heavenly home at the age of 74 years, two months and three days. Verla is survived by her husband, Jack; their daughter, Rita, and son-in-law, Trent Gerdes; and two granddaughters, Melanie and Morgan, of Waterloo; two brothers, Vern Ritzman, of Hampton and Harold Ritzman, of Nashua; two sisters, Marlis Nielsen, of Hampton and Audrey Stemmerman, of Allison. Her parents preceded her in death."
[19181] The LDS Church's unverified Ancestral File (1DNH-D4V) states that Isaac B. Shaw was b. 3 Nov 1839 in Dennysville, ME to Thomas Shaw and Roxby Wilder (daughter of Zenas Wilder and Hannah Clarke). Ancestry.com offers: "Shaw Name Meaning - English: topographic name for someone who lived by a copse or thicket, Middle English s(c)hage, s(c)hawe (Old English sceaga), or a habitational name from any of the numerous minor places named with this word. The English surname was also established in Ireland in the 17th century. Scottish and Irish: adopted as an English form of any of various Gaelic surnames derived from the personal name Sitheach 'wolf'."
