He was born Dec. 24, 1893 here, son of Frank and Martha (Haskell) Carman. He was a 50-year member of Marine Lodge of Masons, the Pine Tree Chapter of Masons and Harbor View Chapter OES, all of here. He spent his younger years at sea, both on sail boats and steamships. For many years he was with the Eastern Steamship Co. For 16 years he was chief officer of the steamer Belfast. He held a pilot's license unlimited. He is survived by his widow, Dorothy (Sylvester) Carman, of here; a sister, Mr.s Dora Fifield of Stonington."

John was living in 1368 as he appears as a witness to a deed April 20 the 41st year of King Edward the Third, but he must have died soon after, as in a deed dated 11th of Jan. in the 42nd year of Edward the Third, Humphrey de Bohun, Earl of Essex, Hereford and Northampton, Constable of England, at the request of his dear and well beloved John Knyvet, discharged Dame Margaret Barenton, wife of the late Sir John Barenton, for her life, from all services and customs due from the tenements she held in Hatfield, excepting quit rents, with an acknowledgement of services due, and the care of the fence round his park. John had two sons, John and Edmund, the latter possessed the Manors of Gravely, Letchworth and Cheresfield together with the parkership of the park at Weston near Baldock, and other lands there, all in Hertfordshire, and which had been the property of his mother Margaret and settled after her death on her younger children. [1684] Otto II was chosen German king in 961 and crowned joint emperor at Rome by Pope John XIII (25 Dec 967); he became sole emperor on the death of his father (in May, 973). His son reigned as Otto III, 983-1002. Otto II is the only Holy Roman Emperor to be buried in St. Peter's Basilica, Rome. He is listed as a child of Otto I by Edith of Wessex in "The Carolingians," Pierre Riché (Philadelphia: U. of PA Press, 1993), Table 3 - but his birth year suggests he is son by Adelaine of Burgndy. http://fmg.ac/Projects/MedLands offers: "Otto (end 955-Rome 7 Dec 983, bur Rome St Peter's). Regino records the birth of 'Otto filius regis' at the end of 955. 'Ottone fratre [Machtild unica filia . . .patre Otto imperatore et matre Athelheida imperiatrice]' was recorded by Annalista Saxo. He was elected associate King of Germany at Worms and crowned at Aachen 26 May 961. He was crowned associate Emperor 25 Dec 967 at Rome. He was elected Otto II 'Rufus' King of Germany at Worms early May 973, crowned at Aachen 26 May 973. His rule was challenged by the rebellions of his cousin Heinrich II 'der Zänker' Duke of Bavaria in 974 and 976/78. On his accession, he claimed Byzantium's possessions in Italy as part of his wife's dowry. He left for Italy in Nov 980 to press his claims, conquered Tarento, but was defeated in 982 by a Byzantine/Muslim alliance near Stilo in Calabria. His chancery adopted the title 'imperator Romanorum augustus' in 982. After holding court at Verona, where his son was elected associate king, Otto II left for Rome where he died of malaria. The necrology of Fulda records the death '983 7 Id Dec' of 'Otto imperator'. - m (Rome 14 Apr 972) Theophano, niece of Emperor Ioannes Tzimisces, daughter of --- ([960]-Nijmegen 15 Jun 991, bur Köln St Pantaleon). Her exact relationship to Emperor Ioannes Tzimisces is unknown. It is possible that she was a relative of the emperor's wife rather than of the emperor himself. Emperor Otto I had sent to Constantinople for an imperial bride for his son, but in the meantime Emperor Nikephoros Phokas was murdered. According to Thietmar, his successor Emperor Ioannes Tzimisces sent his niece Theophano back to Germany 'not the desired maiden . . .accompanied by a splendid entourage and magnificent gifts'. 'Otto . . .imperator augustus' granted property to 'Theophanu, Iohannis Constantinopolitani imperatoris neptim' dated 14 Apr 972. Lay Abbess of Nivelles. She was regent during the minority of her son 984-991. Thietmar records the death of Empress Theophano at Nijmegen on 15 Jun and her place of burial. The necrology of Merseburg records the death '15 Jun' of 'Theophanu imperatrix'."

Ressler, widely known Shamokin banking official, died suddenly yesterday afternoon at 4:45 in her apartment at Sarasota, Fla. Mrs. Ressler, who with her husband and sister, Miss Ruth Kistler, and Mrs. Gertrude English, Shamokin, had left for Florida on February 26, was stricken acutely ill while watching television. Death occurred a short time later. A native of Shenandoah, Mrs. Ressler was born May 27, 1892, daughter of the late Dr. John S. and Clara (Dengler) Kistler. She was graduated from Shenandoah High School and Wilson College, Chambersburg. Mrs. Kessler resided in Shenandoah during her early life, moving to Shamokin following her marriage to William H. Ressler August 10, 1918. Her husband is chairman of the Board of Directors of the Central Pennsylvania Savings Association and the Guarantee Trust and Safe Deposit Company, Shamokin. Mrs. Ressler was a member of St. John's United Church of Christ. She was a former director of the Junior Choir of the Church. Active in programs of the Young Women's Christian Association of Shamokin, she was an honorary member of that organization's board of directors. Mrs. Ressler also was a charter member of Shamokin Woman's Club. Survivors include the husband, two daughters, Mrs. William (Louise) Faust, Indianapolis and Mrs. Ruth M. Grafius, wife of Commander Guy Grafius, U.S. Navy, San Diego, Calif.; two sons, John K. (Jack) Ressler, Rawlins, and Attorney Peter Ressler, Harrisburg; five grandchildren; a sister. Miss Ruth Kistler, at home, and a brother, Dr. C. Harold Kistler, Ardmore."
