[5870] John received lands, titles and Dudley Castle through his wife at the death of her brother, John de Somery, without issue. John was a knight in the retinue of his brother-in-law; he later alienated the castle and manor of Dudley to Hugh le Despencer by deed 19 Oct 1325, but this grant (extorted from him by force while he was imprisoned) was cancelled in 1327 on the accession of Edward III, and the property was restored to the Sutton Dudleys. In addition to John their heir, they had Margaret who married Roger Hilary.

[16481] Jean Mayo-Lakatos (jmayolak@tampabay.rr.com) shared via email in 2003: "Nathaniel Mayo2 (Rev. John1) was born ca. 1627. He married Hannah Prence, the d/o Thomas Prence and Patience Brewster, on Feb. 14, 1648/49 in Eastham, MA. Nathaniel and Hannah had a double wedding with Hannah's sister, Mercy Prence, and Major John Freeman, s/o Edmund Freeman and Bennett Hodsoll of Plymouth, MA. Nathaniel Mayo2 died after Dec. 19, 1661. His estate was probated Mar. 4, 1661/62. Known children of Nathaniel Mayo2 and Hannah Prence, all born in Eastham, were: a. Thomas: b. Dec. 7, 1650; m. Barbara Knowles. b. Nathaniel: b. Nov. 16, 1652; m. Elizabeth Wixam; m. Mercy Davis. c. Samuel: b. Oct. 12, 1655; m. Ruth Hopkins; m. Mary Sweat. d. Hannah: b. Oct. 17, 1657. e. Theophilus: b. Dec. 17, 1659; d. before June 15, 1676; not living when Rev. John Mayo's estate was settled. f. Bathsheba: b. Dec. 1661; Hannah was pregnant with her when Nathaniel died. I have further information concerning the children named Thomas, Nathaniel, and Samuel above if you are interested. Nathaniel Mayo2 was able to bear arms for the first time in Barnstable, MA in 1643. In 1655 he was a representative to the General Court. Hannah Prence was born before 1631 in Plymouth, MA. She married Jonathan Sparrow after Nathaniel Mayo2 died. She married him after June 1667 in Eastham, MA. She d.c.1698 in Eastham. Capt. Jonathan Sparrow was the s/o Richard Sparrow and Pandora. Hannah was his second wife. He was a deputy representative and magistrate many years and was also a military man. His children with Hannah (Prence) Mayo were: a. Richard: b. Mar. 17, 1669; he died in infancy. b. Patience: b. before Oct. 25, 1675 and d. Oct. 25, 1745. c. Richard: b.c.1675; d. Apr. 13, 1728; after his mother, Hannah, died, Richard married Mercy Cobb, who was the d/o his father, Jonathan's, third wife. They had 3 children: Hannah, Mary, and Richard Sparrow. My source for this information is "Rev. John Mayo and His Descendants" by Jean Mayo Rodwick, published in 2001. Immigrant ancestor, Governor Thomas Prence, was born in Lechlade, Gloucester, England ca. 1600. He died on March 29, 1673 and his will was proved June 5, 1673. He married 1st at Plymouth, MA (the 9th marriage in the colony), to Patience Brewster, on August 5, 1624. She was the daughter of immigrant ancestor, William Brewster, and she died in 1634. He then married 2nd Mary Collier, the daughter of William Collier of Duxbury, on April 1, 1635.She died before December of 1662. He then married 3rd Apphia (Quicke) Freeman, before December 8, 1662. She was the widow of Samuel Freeman, Sr. He married 4th Mrs. Mary Howes, the widow of immigrant ancestor, Thomas Howes of Yarmouth, and she died on December 9, 1695. Thomas Prence was a businessman and arrived on the "Fortune" in 1621 and was Governor of Plymouth Colony for 20 years. He followed his father-in-law, William Brewster, to Duxbury, MA in 1632 and moved to Eastham in 1644 with 6 other families, returning later to Plymouth where he died. His daughter, Hannah Prence, married Nathaniel Mayo, son of Rev. John Mayo."
[47574] Stanley arrived in the USA in 1914. The 1920 federal census lists him in Pembroke, Washington Co., ME working on a "pulp woods".
