[40646] "Caroline Schermerhorn was prime American aristocracy: She was the daughter of a wealthy merchant and descended from Dutch nobles. In 1890, William and Caroline immigrated to Britain, where they bought their way into British nobility. But their British citizenship, and Williams title of viscount, were only means of advancing their already formidable position in New York society. Carolines death marked the end of old-style high society in New York City. She had ruled over the upper crust as an un-crowned American queen, and an invitation to one of Mrs. Astors famous balls was the ultimate symbol of ones social rank." - from The Hisory Channel
[44470] Viola's obituary offers: "Mrs. Alice Slicker Davis, 70, of 61 Cameron Ave., widow of Alex Davis Sr., died at the Mansfield General Hospital Friday afternoon, following an extended illness. Mrs. Davis was born in Massillon July 14, 1883 and had lived in Mansfield most of her life. She was a member of the First Christian Church. Surviving are four sons, Thomas C. Davis, Alex Davis Jr., Evan R. Davis, and George R. Davis, all of Mansfield; four daughters, Mrs. Merle Beer of Mansfield, Mrs. I. Mary Varner, Manacka, Pa.; Mrs. Earle fox and Miss Betty Jane Davis, both of Mansfield; 22 grandchildren, 14 great grandchildren; one step-son Wilbur Davis, of Massillon; two brothers, Clarence Slicker of Massillon and George R. Slicker of Canton; and one sister, Mrs. Mabel Garrett of Massillon."

[51598] "The Ellsworth American [Ellsworth, Maine], 29 June 2016": "East Blue Hill - Dwight Sherwood Webber, 73, passed away on June 23, 2016, at Blue Hill Memorial Hospital due to several progressive health conditions. He was born in Blue Hill, August 29, 1942, the son of Kermit and Beulah (Eaton) Webber. He was a 1960 graduate of George Stevens Academy. His love of sports inspired him to later coach GSA girls basketball and cross country. He also served on the GSA Board of Trustees. Among his employers were Webber Cove Boatyard, L.S. Thorsen Corp. and Stinson Canning Company. He also became self-employed - Dwight S. Webber, Painting Contractor and caretaking at summer homes. Dwight served many years as Director/Officer at Blue Hill Fair and Eastern States Exposition (The Big E), and as a Director of the Maine Agricultural Fair Association, and member of the South Blue Hill Baptist Church. He was enabled to turn each new challenge during his illness into faith for a better day tomorrow. He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Eileen (Leach) Webber; son, Dwayne; daughter-in-law, Cindy; grandchildren, Michelle and Matthew Webber; son, Dale; daughter-in-law, Amy; grandchildren, Acadia, Molly and McIntosh Webber; sisters, Sharon Brown and Margo Webber; sister-in-law, Mabel Bowden; one niece and six nephews."
