Caswell, Sr., 80, devoted Christian, husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle, and friend passed away peacefully at his home and went to be with his Lord and Savior after a courageous 12.5 year battle with a debilitating stroke. After graduating Medway High School in 1945, he joined the U.S. Military, serving in both the Navy and the Army from 1945 - 1954. He went on to serve the Lord as an active member of Calvary Temple Assembly of God where he sat on the board of deacons for many years. He was made an honorary deacon at the time he felt his health would hinder his position on the board. Sam is survived by his loving wife of 56 years, Hester (Downs) Caswell of Medway; their five children, Samuel J. Caswell, Jr. of Millinocket, Wendy L. Pennell of Medway, Lester R. Caswell, II and his wife Kathy of Millinocket, Viola R. 'Chena' Dewitt and her husband Thomas of East Millinocket, and Jo Beth Caswell of Medway; nine grandchildren, Tina, Lester III, Sarah Jane, Marita, Samantha, Adam, Casandra, Justin, and Jessica; 18 great grandchildren; a loving sister, Loni Jacobs; and many others who loved and respected him. Predeceasing Sam, but never forgotten by him was his son, Roger Dale Caswell, his parents, Lester and Ruby (Thompson) Caswell, and several brothers, sisters, aunts, and uncles. He was a very loving and generous man who loved and served the Lord. Interment, with military honors, will be held after at the Grindstone Cemetery, Medway."

[Will WM1:235]. Samuel Magruder will 1711 mentions "my brother John Pottinger." (Carolyn Collins (NVXJ48A) Indiana). Sarah Bell Magruder named two of her children, Mary and John, as a compliment to her sister Mary, and her husband John Pottenger. Mary Bell Pottenger named two of her children, Sarah and Samuel, as a compliment to her sister, Sarah and her husband Samuel Magruder. The apparent fondness of Sarah Bell Magruder for Colonel Ninian Beall and his family indicates either a relationship or strong friendship.
