"Benjamin was only a small child when his parents moved from Pennsylvania to Wayne County, Ohio. At 16, he became a member of the Methodist Episcopal Church under H. A. Sheldon. At 18 he was licensed as an exhorter (preach in his own church). Two years later he was licensed to preach as an itinerant preacher on the Wyandot Circuit, and the next year on the Norwalk Circuit. At that time (1829), these circuit comprised about two thirds of the state of Ohio. Ohio was still a vast wilderness inhabited mostly by Indians and they made up a large portion of his parishioners. 'For four years he continued the great Methodist work of an itinerant, thoroughly imbued with the work of his Master, his horse a companion, his saddle-bags containing a bible and hymn book which served as a pillow at night behind some friendly log, as cabins were scarce those days when wild animals sounded the requiem at night. The Indians were friendly and honest, as he never broke a promise to them.' Benjamin served four years as an itinerant minister, then turned to medicine, which he practiced for about 50 years. He taught school in Georgetown during the winter of 1838 and General Ulysses S. Grant was one of his students. According to information in his obituary, Grant consulted Benjamin about whether he should go to West Point. Apparently Grant's father objected and wanted him to be a tanner instead. 'During the days of slavery . . . he was conspicuous as a member of the so-called Underground railroad in aiding the colored people to freedom across the state of Ohio with the motto that 'whatever duty dictateddo.'" - Benjamin S. Muriel Cushing (at http://news.rootsweb.com/th/read/MAYFLOWER/2002-04/1018223167 in 2002) offers: "Thomas Delano, son of Thomas and Rebecca (Alden) Delano m. Hannah (Bryant) Bartlett, widow of Ebenezer Bartlett. The Bartlett MFIP #13 suggests that Hannah was the daughter of John and Abigail (Bryant) Bryant but provides no proof. However, on 22 March 1697/8 Hannah Bartlett was appointed administratrix of the estate of Ebenezer Bartlett and posted bond with Samuel Bartlett of Duxbury and John Bryant, Sr. of Plymouth. (Plymouth Co. PR 1:288-9) [Witnesses are frequently related to the subject and the posting of a bond suggests a very close relationship] There is no suggestion of a Warren relationship. The examination of land deeds show that it was the son Thomas that married Hannah Bartlett."

Heichel, 70, of 1376 Robin Hood Lane died in the Mansfield General Hospital emergency room Monday evening after suffering an apparent heart attack at his home. He was born April 30, 1916, in Richland County and had lived his lifetime in the Butler and Mansfield areas. He was a retired 40-year employee of White-Westinghouse. Mr. Heichel attended the McElroy Road Church of Christ and was a member of Westinghouse Veterans Club. Survivors include his wife, Martha Beveridge Heichel, whom he married July 19, 1942; one daughter, Mrs. John (Saundra) Cox of Mansfield; one son, Gurard Hughes of Mansfield; four grandchildren; and two greatgrandchildren; Funeral services will be held Thursday at 11 a.m. at the Bellville Snyder Funeral Home by Paul Whaley, his pastor. Burial will be in Four Corners Cemetery near Butler.

[48605] "The Bangor Daily News [Bangor, Maine]," 12 September 1955, p. 13: "Castine, Sept. 11 - Frank Wardwell, 74, died at his home here Saturday after a short illness. He was born in Penobscot December 28, 1880, son of the late Frederick and Emma (Perkins) Wardwell. Mr. Wardwell was graduated from Eastern State Normal School at Castine and was associated with Wardwell's Market before his retirement in 1942. He was a member of the Congregational church. Surviving are his widow, Ursula of Castine; six sons, Arthur F. and Ernest of Bangor, Robert of Orrington, Donald and William of Bucksport and Douglas of the U.S. Navy at Pensacola, Fla.; four daughters, Mrs. Marie Wood and Mrs. Doris Pratt of Castine, Mrs. Marguerite Heal of East Haddon, Conn., Mrs. Pauline Sliney of East Pepperell, Mass.; 29 grandchildren, four brothers, Ray, Perclval and Gustine, all of Castine, and Harry of Bucksport; three sisters, Mrs. Helen Hatch of Castine, Mrs. Mary Bowden of Stockton and Mrs. Emma Pinkham of South Weymouth, Mass."

Margery m. 13 April 1618 in Thornbury, Gloucestershire Thomas Thayer (b. 16 Aug 1596 in Thornbury, d. 2 June 1665 in Braintree, Norfolk Co., MA).
