[41710] Ancestry.com offers: "Alexander Name Meaning - Scottish, English, German, Dutch; also found in many other cultures: from the personal name Alexander, classical Greek Alexandros, which probably originally meant 'repulser of men (i.e. of the enemy)', from alexein 'to repel' + andros, genitive of aner 'man'. Its popularity in the Middle Ages was due mainly to the Macedonian conqueror, Alexander the Great (356-323 bc) - or rather to the hero of the mythical versions of his exploits that gained currency in the so-called Alexander Romances. The name was also borne by various early Christian saints, including a patriarch of Alexandria (ad c.250-326), whose main achievement was condemning the Arian heresy. The Gaelic form of the personal name is Alasdair, which has given rise to a number of Scottish and Irish patronymic surnames, for example McAllister. Alexander is a common forename in Scotland, often representing an Anglicized form of the Gaelic name."

David's purported parents are David Boylston [sic] (son of William Boylston and Mary Presley) and wife Mahala Snow (daughter of Jabez Snow and Elizabeth Paine). The Snow ancestry is purported to be of Mayflower descent. See http://mason.math.tntech.edu/smith2/d0010/g0000034.htm in 2001. Also see
http://www.angelfire.com/ms/burroweshome/snow.html in 2001. Boydston family site in 2001 is http://backto60s.tripod.com/famhist/index.html. David's service in the War for Independence earned him six rations as indicated in "Virginia Revolutionary Publick Claims," Janice L. Abercrombie and Richard Slatten (Iberian Pub. Co., Athens, GA: 1992), p. 682 - available at the Virginia State Library's Archives Division. "The Boydston-Boydstun Family - Third Edition," Gladys Boydstun Domonoske (Davis, CA: 1980), p. 84: "When David was about ten years old his family moved to Frederick Co., MD and again about 1760 to Frederick Co., VA but there is no records of this marriage or of any children. David Boyston Jr. married again about 1775 in Hampshire Co., West Virginia, Esther Ann Burris, daughter of John and Elizabeth (Boaz) Burris. Only five known children survived. David and his wife moved with her parents to Washington Co., Pennsylvania where he fought in the Revolution. After the war he settled at Mt. Morris in Green Co., PA. His children were: Mary - Nelly - Amelia m. Jeremiah Glasgo - David b. 1789 - went to Chariton Co. MO - Boaz b. 1791 m. Mary Willey." P. 85: "Deed - Aug. 24, 1793 - David Boydston - wife Ester [sic] to George Lemly [sells part of tract called 'Hessy' patented by David 'Boilstone' 24 Oct 1788]." - Rangers on the Frontiers 1778-1783 - Vol. 23, 3rd Series - p. 286 - Pennsylvania Archives. David Boilstone - Westmoreland Co. Pa. David Jr. and George Boydston were living in Hampshire Co., Virginia when they married Esther Anna and Eunice Burris about 1768. Their father, David Boyston Sr. left at that time to go to S. W. Virginia but his two sons stayed with their wives family and went to Pennsylvania where they fought in the Revolution. The Elizabeth Burris, wife of John, who died in 1801 and was buried in Mt Morris Cemetery was the grandmother of Esther Ann and Eunice instead of their mother." David and brother George were in Perry Twp. Green Co., PA. For DAR line, see Frances Aileen Miller, National Number 417125.
