He was born in Willimantic, June 27, 1892, the son of Alphonso M. and Ida Belle (Johnson) Leighton. His wife, Myrtle (Hill) Leighton, died in 1954. He was a former selectman and road commissioner here, and worked in the slate quarries for several years. Surviving are one daughter, Mrs. Evelyn Demmons of Skowhegan; four sons, Elwin of East Minot, Alton, Virgil and Clifford Jr., all of Guilford; two brothers, Rodney of Wlllimantic and Ivan of Topsham; 14 grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews."
