He and his wife, Mary, were members of the Unionville Church of God and had attended the South Gouldsboro Church for many years. He was a member and a past master of the Winter Harbor Lodge No. 192 AF & AM for more than 69 years. He is survived by his wife of 65 years, (June 26, 1930), Mary of Winter Harbor; one son, Joseph Maurice Gerrish of Winter Harbor; one daughter, Janet Marie (Gerrish) Buffett of Sunapee, N.H.; eight grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren, three sisters, Cora Bell Foster of Utah, Marie Clark and Adelaide Wakefield, both of Winter Harbor; several nieces and nephews. Alton was predeceased by a grandson, Russel Alton Gerrish; a brother, Harold F. Gerrish; and a sister, Ina Bean."

Snowman, 68, died at his home today after a long illness. He was born in Orland July 15, 1888, the son of Fred and Ella Hutchins Snowman. He is survived by his wife, Josephine E. Snowman; two sons, Reginald W. of Bucksport and Kenneth A, of Monson; four daughters, Mrs. Arlene Madocks of Fairfield, Mrs. Claire Pessalano of Springfield, Mass., Mrs Beryle Ames and Mrs. Regina Smith, both of Bucksport. Also by one sister, Mrs. Rose E. Hutchins of Bucksport; 16 grandchildren, two great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews."
[40700] An unverified file in Ancestry.com in 2016 offers: "Philip Stroh was born in 1760 in Lancaster County, Pennsylvania. He married Magdalena Spindler and they had six children together. He then married Margaret Farrow and they had two children together. He died on January 23, 1838, in Upper Augusta, Pennsylvania, having lived a long life of 78 years. . . . Magdalena Spindler married Philip Stroh on April 29, 1792, in New Holland, Pennsylvania. They had six children in 27 years. She died in 1820." Ancestry.com offers: "Stroh Name Meaning - German: from Middle High German stro 'straw', hence a metonymic occupational name for a dealer in straw, or a nickname for an exceptionally thin man or someone with straw-colored hair."
