[2063] http://www.art-science.com/Ken/Genealogy/PD/ch48_Gascony.html offers: "Boggis son Eudes was practically an independent monarch in Aquitaine. He had defeated attempts by the Moors from Spain, lead by Abd-al-Rahman-al-Ghafiki, to invade Gascony earlier in his reign in 718 by throwing them back under the walls of Toulouse in 720. But he had backed Chilperic II, the King of Neustria, against Charles Martel (Martel = hammer), his Palace Mayor. Chiperic was the first Merovingian king, since his grandfather Clovis II, to have a backbone but Charles defeated Eudes in 719, who was fighting on too many fronts & forgave him on the understanding that he recognised Chilperic (now practically a prisoner & firmly under Charles' control) as King of all the Franks. But Chilperic died in 720. Although by all accounts, a great general, having defeated a previous Moorish incursion into France outside Toulouse in 721, Eudes was getting old. The Moors invaded Aquitaine in force in 731 & he no longer had sufficient power to defeat them again. In 731, he married his daughter Lampagie off to Othman Ibn Abu-Nusa, Wali of Cerdagne, previously Emir de Cordova, who controlled some of the Pyrenean passes. Cerdagne is a high valley surrounded by high mountains & with easily defended entry points. This would have solved that problem had the Moorish King of Spain, Abd-al-Rahman-al-Ghafiki not immediately defeated & slain Abu-Nusa & sent Lampagie off to Damascus as a trophy. His duchy overrun by Moors, Eudes had to call in Charles Martel, who turned the Moors back forever at the battle of Tours in 732, where Abd-al-Rahman-al-Ghafiki was killed. This gave Charles, the son of Pepin the Fat & great-grandson of Pepin of Landen, carte blanche to interfere in Gascon affairs & establish the power of France there. Eudes was murdered in 735. His family tree is complicated by cousin marriages i.e Branulphe I was his great-great-grandfather twice & also his great-great-great-grandfather but Robert Brian Stewart reckons Branulphe I was not the father of Branulphe II but his brother Gondolfus, Bishop of Tongres was. According to some sources, Eudes allegedly married twice:- (1) to St. Adela (? - 24/12/735), the great-grand-daughter of the first Dagobert, via his son Sigibert III King of Austrasia from 638 (634 - 656) and Inechilde (various spellings!) of Burgundy (?625 - ?670) & their son Dagobert II (652 - 23/12/679), who married an English princess, Matilda. Dagobert II is the one all the legends surround. He was usurped & murdered by Pepin the Fat, with the connivance of the church because of his anti-clerical tendencies but. as he is not a Delaforce, that is another story. (2) to Valtrude of Verdun, daughter of Walchigise, Count of Verdun (611 - ?) & Valtrude. She is the Delaforce ancestor. Valtrudes Verdun is the one where the World War I battle was fought, not the Delaforce Verdun-sur-Garonne."

[57449] "The Bangor Daily News [Bangor, Maine]," 27 July 2022: "Brewer - Mom was called home to join her Lord and Savior, following a period of declining health at a Brewer Health Care facility on July 25, 2022. Mom was born in Bangor, June 30, 1927, to Claude L. Carter and Violet Branscombe Carter. Mom grew up in Bangor, she was educated in Bangor schools. As a child she enjoyed traveling to River Glade, New Brunswick, Canada to visit her mother's parents, and spent many happy times visiting her father's parents in Surry, ME. As a young teenager Mom went to live with her Aunt Florence Proctor and family due to her mother's illness. Following high school Mom married Robert Ashey, they had a daughter, Lorraine. Several years later that marriage ended. Mom then went to work as a housekeeper and cool. Eventually she met and married Robert G. Treat, they moved to Frankfort, where they lived and worked with his parents, Bob and Sophie Treat, operating the family farm for many happy years. Mom enjoyed being a homemaker and raising their children. Robert (Gordon) passed away suddenly in 1967, and with the children almost grown, Mom eventually moved back to Bangor, where she worked at the Bangor House as a baker, as well as housekeeper. Mom lived in the Bangor area until 2009, she then moved to Bucksport to be closer to her daughter and family. Living at Gardner Commons, she enjoyed her new apartment and meeting new friends. In 2014, due to health issues, Mom moved to Brewer Center for Health and Rehabilitation, she made friends there and participated in many of the daily activities, BINGO being her favorite, she was a lifelong Elvis fan. She also got to go to Hawaii on vacation with her daughter and family several times, another lifelong dream. She was predeceased by her parents; husband, Robert Gordon Treat Sr.; son, Robert G. Treat Jr.; and brother, Claude L. Carter Jr. She is survived by her daughter ,Ruth Treat-Kroll and husband, John Jr., of Verona Island; daughter, Lorraine Ashey McDougal and family; grandchildren, Jeffry L. Dunham Jr. of Frankfort, Fred Caylor of Alabama, Robert L. Treat of Arizona, and Emily Treat and family of Hermon; great-grandchildren, Tyler J. Dunham of Verona Island, Mason C Dunham of Bucksport, and Brandon Caylor of Alabama; and great-great-grandson, Oliver S. Dunham of Verona Island; along with cousins, nephews, and extended family."
Find A Grave memorial 126022882 states Johann is buried under the chancel of Trinity Lutheran Church, Reading, Berks Co., PA and offers:
Johann Heinrich Christ Jr. was born in the Hatten, Bas Rhin region of the Alsace and it is the location of the Hatten Lutheran Church that holds the birth/baptism records for he and his siblings. Alsace is now part of France but it was settled by Germans from the time of Charlemagne. These people were German in language, culture and schooling. During the years that the Christs immigrated to Pennsylvania it was technically France - but the Alsace always had it's own German identity.
Johann was the son of Johann Heinrich Christ Sr. and Anna Gotz. He may have come to America in 1732 on the "Pennsylvania Merchant" at age 11. He married Appalonia Richter January 25, 1748 in Berks County, Pennsylvania; Appalonia was the daughter of Johannes Richter (Moselem Lutheran Church Records for marriage).
He was a man of prominence at Reading in 1760 and officiated as Sheriff of Berks County in 1761 and 1762. He showed a proper enthusiasm in the first movement at Reading for the Revolution in 1774 and was appointed by Edward Biddle as one of the Committee on Correspondence. On March 9, 1776, he was commissioned Captain in Col. Samuel Miles' Pennsylvania Rifle Regiment and raised and commanded a company of rifle men in the campaign of Long Island, though not actually engaged in the battle. He resigned on March 19, 1777, when he was placed on the Committee to Collect Arms. Upon his return, he was appointed a Justice of the Peace of Reading and in 1784 he was reappointed for another term of 7 years. While holding this office, he also served as recorder, register [of wills] and clerk of the Orphan's Court of Berks county from 1777 to 1789, accepting the last named office for the year 1789. He was also Clerk of the Quarter Sessions for 1779. He left a large estate.
Johann & Appalonia Christ had 12 children:
Four were sons: Henry (born Jan 19, 1755, died Dec 14, 1784, married Catharina Schumacher), Jacob (born July 16, 1764, died Dec. 25, 1833, married Susanna Gross), Johann Heinrich III (born 1766/1767 and married Elisabetha Gross) and Daniel (born 1769, married Catharina Miller in 1790).
Six were daughters:
Anna Barbara (born 1748/1749 and married John Gallentine), Maria (married George Spangler), Catharine (born Feb 3, 1753, died Oct. 12, 1801, married Capt. Jacob Graul), Margaret (married Jacob Zimmerman), Susanna (born circa 1753, married Friedrich Gossler in 1779) and Magdalena (married Michael Lutz).

[5870] Roger is given as Margaret's father by James Henry Mason, "The Dudley Genealogies" (Glendale, California, 1987), p.14. He states, p. 3: "Edwin, Earl of Mercia, was Lord Dudley before the Norman Conquest. He was slain in 1071 by the Normans, and his Dudley estates were given to William Fitz Ausculph or Ansculf. The Domesday Book says: `the said William holds Dudley and there is his castle.' The date was 14 William I (1080). The castle was probably inherited by a daughter of Fitz Ausculph who married a Paganel. Fulke Paganel [see ID5998 - AEM] came into possession of Dudley soon after Fitz Ausculph's time. He was succeeded by his son Ralph. The eldest of Ralph's six sons was Gervase, who inherited Dudley and built a priory there about 1161. King Henry II demolished Dudley Castle in 1175, because Gervase Paganel aided his rebellious son Henry. Hawyse, daughter of Gervase Paganel, now inherited the estate. She married John de Somery. Their son Ralph was heir in 1194, and died in 1208. His son and heir, William Perceval de Somery, left the estate to his son Nicholas, who died in 1229, leaving the estate to his uncle, Roger. About 1262 Roger de Somery `began to make a castle of his manor house at Dudley.' He was a warrior and had license from the king to castellate his manor. He died in 1273, and two more de Somery lords of Dudley occupied the castle. The castle now passed to the Sutton family when John de Sutton married Margaret de Somery." The site of the castle had been fortified since about 700 A.D. See Roger de Someri and his ancestry!

[30083] http://en.wikisource.org/wiki/Page:Dictionary_of_National_Biography_volume_28.djvu/114 offers: "Howel ab Owain Gwynedd (d. 1171?), warrior and poet, was the son of Owain ab Gruffydd ab Cynan, prince of North Wales. Pyvog, the daughter of an Irish noble, was his mother. 'Brut Ieuan Brechfa' (Myv. Arch. ii. 720) wrongly states that Owain married her in 1130. In 1143, taking advantage of a quarrel between his father and his uncle Cadwaladr (d. 1172) [q.v.], Howel seized some part of Ceredigion, and burnt his uncle's castle of Aberystwith. In the following year, in the course of a quarrel with Sir Hugh de Mortimer, Howel and his brother Cynan ravaged Aberteifi or Cardigan. In 1145, in conjunction with Cadell, son of Gruffydd ab Rhys [q.v.], prince of South Wales, he took Carmarthen Castle. In the next year, however, Howel apparently changed sides, and joined his forces to those of the Normans against the sons of Gruffydd, who had marched against the castle of Gwys. Both sides invited his aid; but the promise of 'much property' seems to have turned the scale in favour of the Norman alliance, and Howel's intervention insured the success of his allies (Brut y Tywysogion,RollsSer. p. 172,MS.D.; cf. also another account on the same page). In the same year he and his brother Cynan were engaged in a quarrel with Cadwaladr. The brothers called out the men of Meirionydd, 'who had taken refuge in churches,' marched thence and took the castle of Cynvael (ib. p. 174). In 1150 Howel suffered a series of reverses. The sons of Gruffydd ab Rhys took his portion of Ceredigion except the castle of Pengwern, and in 1152 that also fell into their hands. In 1157 Henry II made an effort to subjugate Gwynedd, and at the battle of Basingwerk was defeated by Owain and his sons, among whom was Howel (Ann. Cambr.p. 46,Rolls Ser., which gives the date as 1148; cf.Gir. Cambr.It. Cambr.vi.137,Rolls Ser.) In 1158 Howel was engaged with a mixed force of French, Normans, Flemings, English, and Welsh against Lord Rhys ab Gruffydd, who had burnt the castles of Dyved. The expedition, however, did not succeed, and a truce followed. Howel's father died in 1169. According to the version of 'Brut y Tywysogion,' printed in the 'Myvyrian Archæology,' Howel, as Owain's eldest son, thereupon seized the government and kept possession of it for two years. During his absence in Ireland, looking after certain property which came to him in right of his mother and wife, his brother David rose up against him. Howel returned, but he was defeated, wounded in battle, and taken to Ireland, where he is said to have died in 1170, leaving his Irish possessions to his brother Rhirid. According to the 'Annales Cambriæ' (p.53), Howel was killed by his brother David and his men in 1171. An anonymous poem places his death at Pentraeth (in Anglesey?)(Myv. Arch. i. 281), while another, quoted by Price, names Bangor as his burial-place (Hanes Cymru,p. 584). Of Howel's poetical works the only known remains are eight odes printed in 'Myvyrian Archæology,'i. 197-9." Cf. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hywel_ab_Owain_Gwynedd.

[58067] Ava's obituary: "Bucksport - Ava Saunders Bowden, born March 28, 1944, went into the Arms of her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ and her mother who passed before she knew her, on February 3, 2024. Born to Ethel Van Der Kar and Harry S. Saunders of Bucksport, she was raised by her Grandparents, Father, Aunts and Uncle and became multi-talented in many ways. Taught by her father to play many instruments like the Piano, Flute and Accordion which she was best known for and gave lessons. She was an organist at the Church of the Nazarene in Belfast, a church that many other residents of Bucksport broke ground on and built together as a family in God. Together they traveled to local nursing homes spreading the love of God through music and singing. She was a dancer as a child in tap and ballet and a member of the Rainbow girls for many years. She loved riding horseback and visiting the horse 'ShowBoy' that lived up the street on Central St. She married the love of her life Richard in 1964 and had 2 beautiful children Aaron and Amy with him. They built a new house in 1972 a mile from her childhood home and raised their family. She was a secretary to the town manager of Bucksport for 20+ years and the President of the Bucksport Garden Club for many years. She was a proud supporter of Veterans, standing alongside her husband Richard the Commander of the American Legion of Bucksport. She was member of the American Legion Auxiliary and the La Femme of the 40-8. She was an avid Horticulturist that could give Roger Swain a run for his money, knowing all the Latin names of many plants. She opened a greenhouse called Grannys Bloomers when she retired and became a certified wildlife sanctuary where she fed many birds, squirrels, skunks, groundhogs, raccoons, and deer that visited her yard. She took great pride in the many successes of her son Aaron and her daughter Amy throughout their growing up, passing on all the family traits and talents. Adding to her joy was the arrival of her 2 grandchildren Elizabeth and Nathaniel who she loved and nourished with her 'Nana' ways. Her granddaughter following her in her dancing footsteps and her grandson inheriting the artistic and musical talents of his great grandfather, filled her heart immensely. She loved telling people jokes and had a plethora of them memorized to tell on a whim. She is survived by her loving Husband Richard of 59 years. Son Aaron Bowden of Auburn, Daughter Amy, and husband Vince Minnick of Bucksport. Grandchildren Elizabeth Cusack and Nathaniel Bowden of Bucksport. Brother-in-Law Norman Bowden and wife Pam. Nieces Alisha McCann and Heather Harriman."
