[53231] "The Bangor Daily News [Bangor, Maine]," 5 September 1953, p. 3: "Machias, Sept. 4 - Former Sheriff Ray S. Foster of Washington County, 64, died in his home Friday afternoon following several months' illness which hospitalized him three times for surgical treatment. Foster, whose many terms as sheriff gained him wide acquaintance throughout the state, was a prominent Republican and for several years was a member of the Republican State Committee. Foster was born in Cooper, March 23, 1889, the son of Gilbert D. and Electa Tuell Foster. For several years he lived in Baring and was employed as foreman for the S. D. Warren company in the Whiting area. He later moved to Dennysville and for nine years served as deputy sheriff during the late James A. Cummings term of office as sheriff. Foster was elected sheriff of Washington county 14 years ago serving, until January 1, 1953. During the past few years he had been engaged in a lumbering business at Northfield with his son. In community activities and in work with youth groups he was deeply interested and was one of the foremost organizers of the boys' camp at Jacksonville and served as a troop committee chairman in local Boy Scout troops. He was trustee of the Methodist camp ground association and was currently serving as treasurer of the association. . . . "

Fuller, Loysvilie R. D., and 11 grandchildren. Funeral srevices were held Feb. 28 from the Brethren in Christ Church at Saville, near Ickesburg, with the Rev. Simon Lehman Jr., officiating. Burial was in Buffalo Cemetery."
