[5968] BetFoster1@aol.com shared in June, 2003: "Margaret Winslow is a daughter of Edward; being the daughter of his first wife. Her mother was Eleanor Pelham, and Margaret had two brothers by Eleanor and Edward - one was Richard Winslow and one Josiah. That is why references to Margaret usually say she was sister to the Winslow brothers. Robert Hicks, born 1580 married Margaret Winslow. Robert's father was James Hicks, born 1550; his mother was Phebe Allyne, born 1557. Baptist Hicks born 1524 was Robert's grandfather and Mary Evarts his grandmother born 1528. Thomas Hicks was Robert's great grandfather, born 1487, and Margaret Atwood his great grandmother born ____. John Hicks (there were two John Hicks), was his great great grandfather, born 1455 and Joan Damer was Robert's great grandmother, born 1459. So - James was the father of Robert Hicks; Baptist was the father of James and Thomas was the father of Baptist and the son of John Hicks and Joan Damer. Now to go on to Baptist Hicks of Chipping Campden, born 1551, died 1629; his father was another Robert Hicks, born 1518 and mother was Julia Arthur, born 1520. Baptist had 5 brothers and only 1 lived until 1612. Baptist's grandfather was John Hicks, born 1477 and his grandmother was Joan Darnley. His great grandfather was John Hicks, born 1455 and his great grandmother was Joan Damer born 1459. Baptist Hicks bought the Chipping Campden property in 1624 from Sir Thomas Smythe (who was also listed as a Treasurer at Jamestown) but he was not born or brought up in that town. He died in 1629 and left his property to daughter Julian. However, we are descended from both and I shall let you figure it all out. We certainly must at least be descended to John Hicks and Joan Damer." Margaret Winslow is remembered as the first woman teacher in America; her brothers were passengers on the Mayflower in 1620. For Margaret's wardrobe see"The Mayflower Quarterly, Vol. 81, No. 3" (Plymouth, MA: The General Society of Mayflower Descendants), p. 231.
