Find A Grave memorrial 102399364 offers: "Thomas married 26 December 1667 at Salisbury, Massachusetts to Martha Barnard, a daughter of Thomas Barnard. As was required of all male inhabitants over the age of 16 years, Thomas made his Oath of Allegiance, on 20 December 1677 as a resident of Amesbury. Thomas Haynes received land in Amesbury, Massachusetts 1661, 1666 and 1675. He was a petition signer in October 1671 as a resident of Amesbury, served in the training band in 1680. Thomas Haynes died about the year 1683. An inventory of his estate was made 25 September 1683. Ref: Old Families of Salisbury and Amesbury (Hoyt). Whitmore, in his book Genealogical Guide to Early Settlers of America, expressed the possibility that Thomas Haynes was in Maine, 1658-1665, but that statement is doubtful, and it also seems doubtful Thomas was born 1645 as claimed on several internet websites. Thomas Haynes of Amesbury is not shown as being the same Thomas Haynes, an early inhabitant of Maquoit (Casco Bay) Maine in 1641, who was driven off by the Indians and was at Lynn, Massachusetts with his wife, Joyce in the year 1678. Since both are known to have married women with different names and were living simultaneously in different localities of Massachusetts, it is doubtful they were the same person."

Showvaker, 318 Chestnut street, as the result of old age. He has lived in this citv since wife's death a vear ago. He was i formerly justice of the peace and postmaster at Loysville. Ho is survived by the following children: James C. Rickard and Samuel L. Rickard, of Blaine, Perry county; Mrs. J. D. Kistler and Mrs. E. G. Showvaker, of Harrisburg; B. F. Rickard of Lewistown; Mrs. F. D. Lightner and Mrs. B. F. Kell, of Loysville; and by sixteen grandchildren and twenty-six great grand children." He and Sarah were confirmed together at the Reformed (Lebanon) Church. He was appointed first postmaster of Andesville (later Loysville) 27 Nov 1855 and held the post to 2 May 1861. Jacob was a Church Elder and Justice of the Peace. He r. Loysville where he had a harness shop and saddlery.

H of the 4th Maine Infantry during the American Civil War. According to the Adjutant General Report, David enlisted on October 14, 1861, and mustered in on November 9, 1861. He was discharged for disability on December 31, 1862. In the 1850 census, David was living in Sedgewick, Maine, with his parents Alexander (52) and Susan (47). Also living in the Snowman household were Elizabeth (26), Thomas (24), Michael (22), both sailors, Susan (20), Alexander (17) (also listed as a sailor), Samuel (15), Addison (19), Sewall (12), Jacob (6), and Abby (2). In the 1880 census, David and his wife Lizzie are living in Woodland with children Addison (9), William (8), Eva (6), George (4), and Emmely (1). In 1900, his family consisted of his wife and children Arthur, Albert, Harry, Walter, and Eva. In 1930, he was 85 years old and living with his daughter Eva (36). While David was a member of the 4th Infantry of Maine, it fought with the Army of the Potomac under Major General George McClellan in the Peninsular Campaign during March through July of 1862. It fought in many battles including the Seven Days Battles in the Richmond area. As part of the Northern Virginia Campaign, it fought in the Second Battle of Bull Run and the Battle of Chantilly and in December 11-15, 1862, the 4th fought at the Battle of Fredericksburg, Virginia. "Jacob and his wife obtained passports, and after 2 months at sea,arrived in Philadelphia. By that time, they were homeless, penniless, and far from home in thisfrontier land with Indians. They first settled in Lancaster County, Pa. but later decided totravel northward. The couple obtained thousands of acres of landunder the homestead law, then in force. They lived in a tent till a log house could be built. In addition to farming, Jacob Walter erected the first Linseed Mill, for the manufacture of oil, in that section of Pa. Jacob realized that there was a great need to educate the next generation. He and Mr. Hassinger, and Mr. Mauer established a Lutheran church and school. The church was known as Hassinger'schurch. In the early days, an alarm was circulated that the Indians wouldmassacre the whites in this section. All the settlers immediately left for the fort in Northumberland. It was harvest time and Jacob Walter decided to stay on his land and finish his work. He had four grown sons and he had them take turns watching for Indians while the others cut the grain. When the other settlers returned, they threatened him and his sons with death, since the Walters were able to complete the harvest. The others believed that they had conspired with the Indians. It was said that till the end of his life, he was able to say 'I have fought the fight, I have kept the faith, and I have won the crown'!!"
