[6528] Beverly's obituary: "Beverly Anne Farnham Henry passed peacefully on February 7 th, 2024, at 3:47 pm in her bed surrounded by her family at St. Augustine, FL Hospice. She was born April 5 th, 1940, to Hollis L. Farnham and Dorothy Mae Conner in Castine, Maine. Her early years were spent in West Penobscot on the shores of Penobscot Bay; a small community with close ties to Castine. Here, she and her siblings spent their hours doing household chores, yarding logs at their father's small sawmill, picking and raking blueberries, shoveling snow, digging clams, swimming, and enjoying time with the few neighborhood children and those of the 'summer people'. She was a Girl Scout and with the Scouts she climbed Mt. Katahdin. It was a learning experience - camping was to be in a Hilton after that. Beginning at 16 years old, she worked waiting on tables in Bucks Harbor, the Clearmont Hotel in Southwest Harbor, and the Brookside in Ellsworth, earning enough money along with scholarships to enable her to attend and graduate from University of Maine in 1962 with a BA in History & Government with a minor in English. Her education started very early with her parents and a very special great aunt, Una B. Grey, known as Ner-Nau. Formal schooling was in a one room schoolhouse until high school. She graduated in 1958 from the George Stevens Academy in Blue Hill, Maine. The following year she taught at Crosby High School in Belfast, Maine. On June 22 nd, 1963, she married her college sweetheart, Edwin R. Henry IV, and moved to Oradell, NJ where they made their home and that of their children for the next 36 years. Meanwhile, she continued her teaching career teaching learning disabled teenagers at River Dell High School in Oradell, NJ. Not stopping with her own education, she earned a master's degree in Learning Disabilities from Montclair State Univ in Montclair, NJ. Many of the family summers spent in Maine at the beloved old farmhouse on the Great Sacandaga Lake in the Adirondacks where she had a large garden. Once their son decided move to Arizona, several cross-country car trips were enjoyed to the west and along the east coast. Retiring in 1997,1998, she and Ed moved to St. Augustine, FL and where she stayed after Ed passed away in 2002. Bev was known to wear many hats, Mom, Girl Scout leader, Boy Scout merit badge counselor, PTA class advisor, social chairman for the community, scholarship chair for D.A.R., a docent at the St. Augustine Lighthouse for 20 years. Her mother's estate left her with hundreds of family papers and pictures, so she quickly became an amateur genealogist compiling many family histories for the family friends and the Castine Maine Historical Society. She was preceded in death by her parents mentioned prior, her in-laws, Dr Edwin R. Henry III and Olga Gerwig Henry of Oradell, NJ, her two brothers, Alton S. Farnham and Dennis Farnham of Penobscot, and her sister Rachel L. Farnham Harmon of W. Penobscot. Surviving her is one sister, Barabara Farnham Willis Castine, Maine, her son Edwin R. Henry V Phoenix, AZ, and her daughter Nicole Henry Florio of St. Augustine, four grandchildren, Frank and his fiancee Jenna, Margaret and Zack Florio of St Augustine, FL and Sophia Henry of Phoenix, AZ, a special niece Teresa Higgins and a special aunt in-law, Sally Farnham Downs in Maine."
