[885] Thomas deposed 30 March 1658 that he was then about 54 years old. He was probably among the founders on Gloucester on Cape Ann. He resided near the meeting house there, adjoining the pastor's lot. In Sept., 1647 Thomas acquired three acres of marsh along the south side of Little River. He probably arrived in America about 1640 from the west of England (or Wales), perhaps with the party of his neighbor, the Rev. Richard Blinman. His estate inventory lists a small fortune for his time: 133 pounds and 5 shillings, including "books" at 10 shillings - indicating a literate and successful man. {See "Seven Generations of Bray," William M. Bray; "Penobscot Pioneers...Bray..., Philip Howard Gray (Camden: Penobscot Press, 1992), p. 39.} See http://www.familyorigins.com/users/b/l/o/Peter-E-Blood/FAMO5-0001/d10.htm and "Pioneers of Massachusetts - 1620-1650," Charles Henry Pope (Boston: New England Historic Genealogical Society, 2013), p. 66. "Bray Name Meaning - English: habitational name from places in Berkshire and Devon. The former is probably named with Old French bray 'marsh', the latter from the Cornish element bre 'hill'." - source: Dictionary of American Family Names ©2013, Oxford University Press.

Sir Henry, of St. Donats Castle, Knight, was heir of his father. He was knighted at the Holy Sepulchre in Jerusalem in 1477 and died soon after at Famagusta, Cyprus. AKA Harry. http://www.peerage.org/genealogy/tree.htm reports: "Thomas Stradling's father, Sir Henry Stradling (c. 1423-1477), was captured by a Breton pirate, called Colyn Dolphyn, while crossing the Severn estuary and ransomed for 2,200 marks. Sir Henry Stradling married Elizabeth Herbert, sister of William Herbert, 1st Earl of Pembroke. Her father, Sir William ap Thomas
[19624]
Louis is son of Frederick II "the Pious," Elector of the Palatinate (b. 14 Feb 1515), and Marie von Brandenburg-Kulmbach (b. 11 Oct 1519). James Dow provides his ancestry at http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.com/~jamesdow/s064/f010354.htm. Cf. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Louis_VI,_Elector_Palatine which reports "He was the first-born son of Frederick III, Elector Palatine and Marie of Brandenburg-Kulmbach. Unlike his father, he gave preference to Lutheranism over Calvinism, purging Calvinists from positions at the University of Heidelberg."
