[22042] Homer James offers: "Thomas Fitz Alan, his successor, became the 11th Earl of Arundel when he was restored in blood in the parliament of the 1st year of King Henry IV, and the judgment against his father was reversed. He was made Knight of the Bath at the coronation of King Henry IV. He was afterwards made Knight of the Garter, and upon the accession of King Henry V he was constituted Constable of Dover Castle, and Lord Warden of the Cinque Ports, as also Lord Treasurer of England. He married Beatrix, an illegitimate daughter of John, King of Portugal, and the nuptials were celebrated with great pomp in London, the king and queen assisting. He died, however, without issue, in 1415, leaving his four sisters as his heirs, as to certain parts of his great possessions; but the castle of Arundel, and with it the earldom, devolved upon his cousin, John Fitz Alan, son of John Fitz Alan. [55284] "Bangor Daily News [Bangor, Maine]," 11 December 2023: "Verona Island - Patricia 'Patty' Bridges passed away peacefully in her home on November 25, 2023, with family by her side. She was born on Verona Island on April 11, 1932, to George Francis and Viola (Bridges) Anderson. She grew up on Verona, graduating from Bucksport High School, Class of '49. She is survived by three daughters, Vicki Bakeman (Leon), Kimberly Bridges (Stephen Crosson) and Andrea Moran (Richard). Additionally, she leaves behind her grandchildren, Tracey, Kaci, Patrick, Megan, Robbie, Samie and Mya; and great-grandchildren, Ashley, Alex, Eloise, Abigail, Luca, Nolan, and Mack. She also leaves many special nieces and nephews. In 1954 she married the love of her life, Kenneth Bridges, from Penobscot. After a few years together they built their home on Verona, where they would raise three daughters. Staying in her home until her last days was one of her wishes, and it gives great peace to her family that they were able to grant that wish. She dedicated her life to fulfilling the roles of homemaker, wife, mother, grandmother, and aunt. Both Patty and Ken loved to have huge vegetable gardens, picking their bounty on warm summer days. That was followed by canning and preserving them, filling their cellar shelves with vegetables to eat during the upcoming cold Maine winter. Being a mother meant the world to Patty, especially after losing her own mom at a tender young age. She always made sure her daughters had everything they needed and then some. There were new clothes in September as the school year began. Birthdays were made into special celebrations; there were always homemade decorated cakes, special gifts, and included numerous cousins and friends. Easter brought beautiful puffy dresses, patent leather shoes, and big baskets teeming with candy. Christmas was magical. There were mysterious notes from Santa, new dolls, clothes, and games under the tree, and overstuffed Christmas stockings. She never failed to exceed everyone's wishes. She made sure her family sat down to a homemade supper every evening and that her daughters were kissed and tucked in at bedtime. She was there for her family always, with a twinkle in her eye, a quick smile, listening and helping in any way she could. Her ability to remember birthdays of her extended family and friends was amazing. Even in her final years, she would manage to send cards and gifts to loved ones. She enjoyed games and never turned down an opportunity to play Scrabble or Cribbage. She rarely missed Wheel of Fortune or Jeopardy. She was quick to laugh and had an incredible sense of humor and managed to still joke with her girls and granddaughter during her final days. A special thank you to the many caregivers and nurses who helped her over the years: Ruth, Muriel, Lauren, Gail, Lou, Lindsay, and her special Lisa, who had been with her through it all. Her family is grateful for all of the visitors in her last years. She particularly enjoyed the frequent visits by Larry and Max and looked forward to them. Patty requested a graveside service only, which will be held on June 8, 2024, at 2 p.m. at Bayview Cemetery in Penobscot, ME."

[13722] "Lewisburg Journal [Lewisburg, PA], 23 May 1929," p. 8: "Isaac G. Seiler, prominent resident of Selinsgrove, was fatally injured when the Ford coach in which he riding was hit by a Reading train above New Columbia, at 4:35 o'clock Thursday afternoon. He died at the Geisinger hospital, Danville, at 7:30, less than three hours later. Mr. Seiler, first superintendent of the sfate highways in Union and Snyder counties, since his retirement helped out when needed in various highway operations. For the past weeks he was in charge of oiling roads in the upper end of Union co. He left his work and started home in the late afternoon, arriving at Shower's crossing, where many accidents have occurred, just as the Cannon Ball Express had passed. He did not notice another train following the express, which happened to be the special of Superintendent Farrel, of the Shamokin division, carrying division officials. The locomotive hit the Ford car and crushed it to debris. Mr. Seiler was hurled through the windshield, and carried a distance of 75 feet. His head was crushed, but his body was not mangled. It is believed that he did not expect another trin, because of passing of the express, and drove on the track without looking to the north. There is a fair view of the road in either direction at that point. The crossing however, has no protection of any kind. The train was stopped and the injured man taken to West Milton. There he was given medical attention and a special train was made which took him to Danville, whence he was rushed to the Geisinger hospital. Efforts to save him were unavailing, and death came without his regaining consciousness. Mr. Seiler was aged 65 years, and is survived by his wife and one son, Albert D. Seiler, who conducts a printing establishment at Mt. Joy. Mrs. Seiler has been ill for years, and her condition is now critical. She is at the home of her son. His ardent love of outdoor life made him the most conspicuous hunter and fisherman in Snyder county, his fame in that particular extending throughout central Pennsylvania. He was associated closely with Tom ter, Bellefonte editor and sportsman. Mr. Seiler was a staunch Republican, and through the influence of Judge Witmer, received his appointment during the administration of Dr. Hunter as highway comissioner of Pennsylvania. He brought to that position industry, enthusiasm for good roads, and his work was altogether satisfactory."
