[60775] "The Bangor Daily News [Bangor, Maine], 29 October 2025: "Bangor, Maine - Dwight Carrol Whitney Sr. passed away peacefully surrounded by family at the Maine Veterans' Home in Bangor on October 27, 2025. Son of Ralph B. and Eunice (Moody) Whitney, born in Jonesboro on November 9, 1926. Dwight was deeply beloved by all family, friends, and colleagues. He married the love of his life, Dorothy 'Dot Mae' Cole on October 1, 1948. He was proud to be the last living grandchild of Josiah and Josephine Whitney of Jonesboro. Dwight graduated from Jonesboro High School 'top ten of seven.' Dwight was a proud WWII veteran serving in the South Pacific. He graduated from the U.S. Navy School of Engineering and Lewiston School of Refrigeration. Upon returning home he worked for Bangor Hydro-Electric holding numerous positions. He retired as line superintendent after 41 years of service. Dwight was a 71 year member of Centre Street Congregational Church and served as deacon for years. Dwight received the Boston Post Cane from the Town of Jonesboro, where he served his town for years as chairman of the planning board. Dwight had a love for baseball, was a lifelong fan of the Red Sox, and was known for his pitching abilities on Washington County teams. He enjoyed following his granddaughter's Machias softball teams, eager to coach from the backstop. He had a love for salmon fishing, and a love for hunting camp in Centerville enjoying his time spent with his sons and relatives. Dwight built the cherished family camp 'Jusuitsus' on Bog Lake in 1961. Dwight had a lifelong commitment to masonry and was a 76 year member. Dwight was raised a master mason in Harwood Lodge No. 91 on June 6, 1949, and served as worshipful master in 1959. He held numerous appointments of the Grand Lodge of Maine. He served as District Deputy Grand Master 1974 and 1975. Exalted in Washington Royal Arch Chapter No. 16, he served as Excellent High Priest in 1964-1965 and was elected Grand High Priest of Maine in 1975. He was greeted in St. Croix Council No. 11 in 1963 and served as Illustrious Master in 1969. He was knighted in St. Elmo Commandry No. 18 Knights Templar in 1963 and served as Eminent Commander 1966-1969. He served Pinetree Priory No. 65, Knights of the York Cross of Honor as Eminent Prior. He was a member of Tamerlane Conclave No. 4, Knights of the Red Cross of Constantine, and Past Grand Sovereign of the Grand Imperial Council of the Red Cross of Constantine of Maine. Dwight joined Machias Chapter #83 Order of the Eastern Star in 1952. He served his chapter as Worthy Patron and Grand Chapter as Worthy Grand Patron 1981 and 1982. Dwight was awarded the DeMolay Legion of Honor and Cross of Honor for his devoted service as Dad Advisor. He was awarded the Grand Cross of Color from Rainbow for his years as Dad Advisor. Dwight was a member of the Valley of Bangor Ancient Accepted Scottish Rites and the Valley of Portland. He served on the Scottish Rite Northern Masonic committee to establish the Children's Dyslexia Center in Bangor and served on its board of governors for nine years. In 2012 Dwight was coronated Honorary Degree of 33rd, Grand Inspector's General of the Supreme Council of the Northern Masonic Jurisdiction. Dwight is survived by his loving wife, Dot Mae; daughter, Elaine Snowdeal and husband, J-Noble; sons, Dwight Whitney Jr. and husband, Peter Wood, Philip Whitney, Patrick Whitney and wife, Janis, John Whitney and wife, Joyce; grandchildren, Bobbie-Jo Cale, Jillian Whitney, Dwight Whitney III, Rebecca Whitney, Kate Whitney-Beal and husband, Kasden, Ted, Dennis and Kendra Levesque; great-grandchildren, Caroline and Paige Ashley, Allison and Camden Piehler, Rory and Paxton Levesque. He is also survived by beloved nieces, nephews, and cousins, including one of his cherished hunting companions, Dan Foster. Dwight considered his in-laws as sisters and brothers, and is survived by Jeanie, Ginnie Lee, Muriel, and Alan and his wife, Lois, whom we give special thanks for their support at the end. Dwight was predeceased by his parents; brother, Linwood Whitney; parents-in-law, Martha and Neil Cole Sr., sons-in-law, Donald Fickett Sr. and Robert Cale Jr.; and additional family, David Olsen, and Philip, Bessie, Donald, Neil Jr. and Kenneth Cole."
