[31881] Alexander died at the Battle of Dublin. This line is from the unverified Moore Family Tree in Ancestry.com in 2011 which states he is son of Alexander de Forbes (1256-1304). Ancestry.com offers: "Forbes Name Meaning - Scottish: habitational name from a place near Aberdeen, so named from Gaelic forba ‘field’, ‘district’ + the locative suffix -ais. The place name is pronounced in two syllables, with the stress on the second, and the surname until recently reflected this. Today, however, it is generally a monosyllable.Irish: reduced Anglicized form of Gaelic Mac Firbhisigh ‘son of Fearbhisigh’, a personal name composed of Celtic elements meaning ‘man’ + ‘prosperity’. A family of this name in Connacht was famous for its traditional historians, compilers of the Book of Lecan."

Helen Irene GRINNELL

[58595]

FEB 1934 - 18 SEP 2023

Family 1 : Harold Freeman ("Buz") (Jr) BEAL

INDEX

[58595] "The Bangor Daily News [Bangor, Maine],: 22 September 2023: "Jonesport - Helen Irene (Grinnell) Beal, 89, beloved mother, grandmother, sister and aunt passed away peacefully on September 18, 2023, in her home surrounded by her loving family and extraordinary caregivers. Helen was born in Milo, ME, the daughter of Charles A. and Edith L. (Newman) Grinnell. Helen attended schools in Milo and was a graduate of Milo High School. She lived the majority of her lifetime in Dover-Foxcroft, where she raised her family. Helen was a hard worker, having been raised during difficult economic times. During high school and early adulthood, she picked many a bushel of vegetables at Kromer's Farm in Milo. She was employed for several years at the Tannery and Hathaway Shirt in Dover-Foxcroft, and the Dexter Shoe Company in Dexter. Helen was married to the love of her life, Harold 'Buz' Beal Jr. for 25 years at the time of his passing during 2012. Their love story began when they met at Dexter Shoe Company, later settling in Buz's home town of Jonesport, during 1983. Shortly thereafter, Buz and Helen, along with their nephew, Harry Fish Jr., began to build the Maine Central Model Railroad, an HO-scale layout that depicted several communities and well-known sites in Maine. Over several years, the model railroad grew to fill the 900-sq ft building located beside their home. Buz and Helen entertained thousands of visitors from all over the world who have viewed the extensively detailed Downeast attraction. Helen continued this tradition for several years after Buz's death. Their model railroad has been featured on WLBZ-TV, WABI-TV, News Center Maine, Lubec public cable TV, the 'Yankee' magazine, the 'Dispatch' magazine, and in several state wide newspapers. During 2022, the Maine Central Model Railroad relocated to a new home at the Seashore Trolley Museum, located in Kennebunkport Maine. This incredible opportunity came as a result of the generosity of a well-known rail enthusiast and philanthropist who was a dear friend to Buz and Helen - Hansjoerg Wyss. The custom-built design project is still under construction, and all costs are being covered by Mr. Wyss' foundation. Helen was looking forward to seeing this project come to fruition, as it was a source of great joy to her and Buz. Thankfully, thousands of rail and museum enthusiasts will be able to enjoy the model railroad for years to come. Helen was an avid vegetable gardener, sharing her annual bounty with many friends and family members. She spent several hours every year completing her canning, a skill she passed along to her son, Sonny. She was generous in sharing her homemade canned goods with family and friends. She simply asked that we would return the empty jars - we were happy to oblige as we knew it would mean more scrumptious canned goods during the upcoming winter or summer! During COVID she would sometimes mail her goods to us! Helen will be remembered for her warm heart, kindness, affability, generosity, quick wit, and smile. She could light up a room and her company was enjoyed by her family and friends. Helen and Buz cultivated many long-lasting friendships over the years. Everyone was always welcome in their home, where they could enjoy sharing stories, laughs, and not the least of which was Helen's cooking! Her pies, bread, molasses cookies, biscuits, pickles and other canned vegetables, and spaghetti sauce were bar none! She often cooked for several people on the 'Island,' even up to a few short weeks before her death. Several of her 'summer' friends would enjoy the efforts of amazing cooking talent, putting in their 'orders' ahead of time. The secret ingredient to her cooking was her love. We were all the recipient of her great love, and there was always more than enough to go around. We were all treated the same. There is no greater legacy than being loved unconditionally by another person - Helen had a sweet ability to do this, much like her mother, Edith. No judgment - just simple and complete love. Helen is survived by her loving and devoted son, Allan Philbrook; and her son James Wright; a special granddaughter, Becky (Burgoyne) (Harry) Green and children, Benjamin (Racheal) Coppage and Connor Green; a number of grandchildren and great-grandchildren; sister, Ruth E. (Grinnell) Cyr; brother, Harold (Jean) Grinnell; several special nieces and nephews, Lisa B. (Cyr) Carroll, Amber (Cyr) Carriveau, Cynthia Freeman Cyr and daughter, Molly Cyr and husband, Anthony Moreira; Joel Cyr and friend, Jean Harding; Harry (Sherry) Fish Jr. and Aaron Herzog; special and devoted friends Holly and Ricky Beal; several other nieces and nephews; special friend, Hansjoerg Wyss and his late wife, Rosamund Zander; and numerous dear friends. Helen was predeceased by her loving daughter, Cheryl Burgoyne and unborn child, whom she thought about every day since their tragic death in a car accident on October 30, 1973; her parents; sisters, Marion Grinnell (deceased at age 2) and Charlene (Grinnell) Robichaud; brother, Charles E. Grinnell; and special brother-in-law, Eddie A. Cyr. The family is grateful for the care she received at home for the past few months from her dear friends Holly and Ricky; most recently her private caregivers Eve, Mabel, Colleen, and Tammy; and CHCS Home Health & Hospice. Helen was able to remain at home per her wishes due to the love and support she received from so many people. A light has been extinguished in our lives. Helen will be sorely missed by all who were loved and cherished by her. Our hearts will long for love she showered upon all of us."

[21714] He is the Frederick Steese mentioned by http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.com/~bbunce77/Bolender_Misc.html: "Frederick's father, Jacob Steese, was a Revolutionary soldier." In 2004 http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.com/~chrystiem/meyerbook.html idedntified Frederick as brother of Mary Steese, daughter of Jacob Steese, reporting: "Mary Steese was said to have been a very stout yet strong woman; she had charge while still single; held the position of "grist-mill operator" before marrying Henry Meyer. Even during this era it was an occupation that was of rude and inconvenient construction for even a man at any age since this type of work demanded considerable strength. Though she was a built with strong features she died in August of 1801 from a Malignant fever of which she contracted while she and her husband Henry were visiting at her brother, 'Frederick Steese' in Synder Co., PA. Frederick Steese had a low grade form of this fever as it is stated that Frederick contracted malignant fever while with his father on a trip to Philadelphia buying goods. Tradtion says it was 'Yellow Fever'. Grandmother (as the writer put is regarding Mary Steese) was the first victim in the Valley to die from the dreaded disease but many early settlers did soon follow."
