[8560] "News-Journal [Mansfield, Ohio]" 21 September 1959, pp. 1-2: "Mrs. Reed, 78 Grand Blvd. Extension, Shelby died at 7:30 p. m. Sunday in Robinson Memorial Hospital, Ravenna, after being injured in an auto accident on U. S. Route 224, one mile west of Deerfield. Mrs. Reed died of head and internal injuries. Her husband, age 67, is listed in fair condition at the hospital with possible internal injuries, and compound fractures of the left arm and left leg. The accident occurred at 4:50 p. m. as the Reeds were en route to their home in Shelby after visiting Mrs. Reed's sister in Youngstown. State patrolmen at the Ravenna post said the car, driven by Reed, headed west on Route 224, had passed one car and was passing a second car. The second car pulled out of the line of traffic to pass. The Reed car left the highway, struck a cement culvert and rolled over. The body of Mrs. Reed is being returned to the Dye Funeral Home, Shelby, today, where services will be conducted Wednesday at 2:30 p. m. by the Rev. D. Bruce pastor of First Lutheran Church, with burial in Oakland Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home Tuesday afternoon and evening. Mrs. Reed was born in Jackson Township and was a lifelong resident of the Shelby area. She was a member of First Lutheran Church, Order of Eastern Star and American Legion Auxiliary. Her husband is a retired employe of Wilkins Air Force Base the New York Central Railroad. Surviving are her husband; one son, Garland Junior Gates of Shelby, RD 1; four grandchildren; two brothers, Frank Briner, Shelby, RD 2, and Newton Briner, Shelby, RD 3; three sisters, Mrs. Maurice Cline, Youngstown, Mrs. Alice McGinley, Long Beach, Calif., and Mrs. Arthur Neal, New Orleans, La."
