[54707] James' obituary: "Stonington - James E. Bray, 83, passed away October 18, 2022, from complications from a heart attack following declining health over the last couple of years. He was born in Stonington, May 30, 1939, the son of Lawrence and Rose (Blastow) Bray. He grew up in Stonington and graduated from high school in 1957. He then went to Augusta to school to become a CPA. He joined the Army Reserves and served for 17 years. He later worked in a mental institution for a couple of years and then worked as a bookkeeper for a trucking company in Skowhegan for a few years. James moved back to Stonington in the 70s and established his CPA business. He belonged to the American Legion and IOOF for many years. James was always an independent and outgoing person. He loved to talk and catch upon all the news around town. He also liked jigsaw puzzles and playing Skip-Bo. He is survived by his sister, Annie Cassidy, St. Albans; brother, Junior and wife Joyce, Stonington; brothers-in-law, Stanley Joyce, Deer Isle and Lindon Eaton, New Palt, NY; also, many nieces, nephews, grandnieces, and grand nephews; and many longtime friends. He was predeceased by his parents; brother, Robert, and wife Barbara; sister, Mary and husband Roger Lee; sister, Laura Joyce; sister Lenora Burton; nephews, Lawrence Burton, Michael Cassidy and Brian Bray."

Porter, 62, passed away peacefully at his home in Prospect on August 8, 2025, after a battle with cancer with his wife, Sandy, holding his hand and son, Jeremy, and other loved ones by his side. He was born in Bangor, Maine, on March 25, 1963, to parents, Richard P. Herbest and Althea Kelley. Shawn grew up in Bucksport and was well-known as a child. He used to ride his bike over the Waldo-Hancock Bridge and often bragged about how he would do it with no hands. He was a very good athlete and was active in sports, including Pop Warner Football and eventually varsity football at Bucksport High School, where he was a graduate of the class of 1982. After high school, Shawn spent more time in Bucksport, where he welcomed his son, Jeremy. He then moved to Nevada and later California for a few months, and after returning to Maine, he worked at Spot-Bilt Shoes in Bangor, and then Eastern Fine Paper in Brewer for 17 years before its closure in 2004. He met the love of his life, Sandy, shortly after returning from the West Coast, and they married on November 6, 1993. Shawn and Sandy were virtually inseparable, and over the years, they enjoyed going out and dancing, spending time outdoors camping and swimming, and quiet time at home watching movies and sports, especially football (the Patriots) and UFC. Shawn was an avid fan of combat sports and loved watching UFC, MMA, and boxing. He would always share facts and opinions about every fighter with friends and family. On almost every phone call with his son, he would ask, 'Hey, did you watch the fights the other night?' and they proceeded to chat at length about them. Shawn and Sandy often opened their home to family and friends who needed a place to stay no matter the duration. Shawn loved animals from a young age and had several pets throughout his life - Spazz, Tara, Kita, Smokey, Max, Bear, and Bo - just to name a few. He liked music, especially classic rock ballads, and singing karaoke. He enjoyed spending time outdoors camping, fishing, hunting, 4-wheeling, snowmobiling, and swimming. He mentioned swimming across Toddy Pond on multiple occasions. He liked to playfully tease and play practical jokes. He was the life of the party in his heyday. He was known for confronting bullies to protect his friends, family, classmates, and even people he didn't know. He was a fighter to the very end. Herbest of Bangor; and Randy Astbury and partner, Heather Black, of Blue Hill; sisters, Vicky Ward of Searsport, Mary Astbury of Blue Hill, and Rosemarie Webster of Lewiston; cousin, Sherry Ramsay of Orland; and several nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. He was predeceased by his mother, Althea Kelley; father, Richard P. Herbest; brothers, Thomas Herbest and Kevin Fuller; sisters, Ellen McAllian and Debbie Valenoti; stepfather, Adelbert H. 'Buster' Kelley; mother-in-law, Grace Astbury; father-in-law, Virgil Astbury; and nephew, Timothy 'T.C.' Ward, Jr."

She was united in marriage with Christian Freehafer on 17 October 1809 in Tulpehocken Township, Berks County, Pennsylvania (now Jackson Township, Lebanon County, Pennsylvania). Elizabeth and Christian's children were John Freehafer, Maria Freehafer Hettinger, Augustus Freehafer, Anna Freehafer Bucher, Lucy Ann Freehafer Smith, Jonathan Freehafer and Michael Freehafer. The 1860 Census lists Elizabeth, age 68, living in Worthington Twp, Richland County, Ohio, with her son Michael, daughter-in-law Rachel and grandchildren, Franklin, Hetta Ann, Lucinda and Emily Ellen. She was living in Huntington County, Indiana on 8 January 1866 when she signed with an X a quitclaim deed selling the land of her deceased husband, Christian Freehafer, to their son, Jonathan Freehafer. Elizabeth died 24 July 1873, age 81 years 11 months 24 days and is buried at the Lininger Cemetery, Huntington County, Indiana."
