[58362] "The Bangor Daily News [Bangor, Maine]," 2 January 2025: "Ripley - Brenda J. Hanson, 78, passed away peacefully on December 30, 2024, with her children by her side. She was born on July 15, 1946, in Dexter, the daughter of Errold and Joyce (Downing) Arnold. She was raised in Dexter, graduating from Dexter High School, class of 1967. She then earned her Maine cosmetology license and worked as a hair stylist in Portland. When she returned to Dexter to raise her family, she worked in the Dexter School Department before her many years at the Dexter Shoe office where she retired. Brenda and Gary Hanson married in 1983 and raised their four children in the house they built in Ripley. They enjoyed camping, snowmobiling, four-wheeling, and exploring Maine. They were active in their community, Ripley Trail Riders snowmobile club, and members of the Cornerstone Baptist Church. Brenda especially enjoyed being part of the Cornerstone church community, assisting with vacation bible school every summer, attending Sunday school with her husband, and helping with the kids programs and church luncheons. In her free time Brenda loved gardening, watching for hummingbirds, shopping, and spending time with her friends and family. Brenda was predeceased by her parents; and her beloved husband, Gary. She is survived by her two sisters, Linda and Douglas Cote of Dexter, and Lorilee and Robert 'Jay' Locke of Hanson, MA; four children, Michael Breen of Athol, MA, Joni Boissonneault and partner, Robert Duplisea, of Monmouth, ME, Jon and wife, Jen Hanson, of Palmyra, ME, and Stacey and husband, Kevin MacDonald, of Glastonbury, CT; many grandchildren and great-grandchildren; and nieces and nephews, and their children as well. She leaves behind many special friends and neighbors whom she loved and helped her through the years." Her parents are Errold William Arnold (1918-1998) & Joyce Madelene Downing (1923-2002; m. 30 March 1943 in Wichita Falls, Wichita Co., Texas).

For further information, see (in 2002) http://www.quiknet.com/~moseley/bios.html#anchor377432 which reports: "Stephen Hopkins was born at Wortley, Wotton-under-Edge, Gloucestershire, England. As a young man, a weaver, he married his first wife, Constance (?) _____. They had three children: Constance, William, and Giles. In 1608 the family moved to London. Stephen decided to go to Jamestown, Virginia to start a new life for himself and, later, for his family. Three ships left England, but two sank in a hurricane. The third, on which Stephen sailed, became stuck on a coral reef off Bermuda. The passengers went ashore and in the following nine and a half months built two smaller ships to continue the trip to Jamestown. After a few months in Jamestown Stephen returned to England to find his wife, baby, and son, William, had died. Stephen moved to London. Stephen Hopkins was referred to as a merchant and a planter in Plymouth records. The home in England of Stephen Hopkins was just outside of London Wall on the high road entering the city at Aldgate in the vicinity of Heneage House. In this neighborhood lived John Carver and William Bradford of the Mayflower Company; Robert Cushman, the London agent for the Pilgrims; and Edward Southworth, who later came to New England. Stephen was called a tanner or leathermaker at the time of the 'Mayflower' voyage. In the spring of 1618 Stephen married his second wife, Elizabeth Fisher. They had one daughter, Damaris. A son, Oceanus, was born on the 'Mayflower' before landing at Plymouth. Both Damaris and Oceanus died young. Five more children were born at Plymouth. Descent from Stephen Hopkins has been proven through only Constance, Giles, the second Damaris, and Deborah. Stephen was one of the forty-one signers of the Mayflower Compact. He served as an Assistant Governor 1629-32 and 1633-35. He died sometime between 6 June and 17 July 1644. His will and inventory of his estate are on record at Plymouth.
