[55135] Find A Grave memorial 122495668 offers: "His whereabouts between 1860 and 1880 remain unknown, but he was a farmer by trade and stood 5' 3" tall with light hair and gray eyes. A Civil War veteran, he enlisted in Carlisle March 10, 1865, mustered into federal service there March 21 as a private with the second organization of Co. F, 101st Pennsylvania Infantry, and honorably discharged with his company June 25, 1865. He married Caroline J. Saylor in 1872 and fathered Annie (b. @1872 - married a Carl), Cyrus Knight (b. 07/06/78), Howard C. (b. 03/21/81), Harry Edward (b. 10/31/86), Roy G. (b. 07/??/91), and Lulu Edith (b. 09/??/91). By 1890, he was living with his family in Saville Township, Perry County. He was the son of Frederick & Margaret Elizabeth (Houck) Harter." "The Perry County Democrat [New Bloomfield, Pennsylvania]," 24 January 1934, p. 3: "George W. Harter, former resident of Bloomfield, and Civil War veteran, died yesterday at the home of his son, Harry Harter, in Lemoyne. He was 84 years old and is survived by three sons in addition to Harry Harter, Willis Harter, of Girard, Ohio; Cyrus Harter, of Lemoyne; Howard Harter, of Canonsburg; two daughters, Mrs. C. A. Carl, of Lemoyne; Mrs. James Hoffman, of Shermansdale. He was a member of Company F, 101st Regiment, Pennsylvania Volunteer Infantry during the Civil War. Funeral services will be held at his son's home in Lemoyne Friday at 10 o'clock and burial will be in the Bloomfield cemetery."
