He was born April 19, 1920 at Brooksville, the son of Richard J. and Jessie (Black) Howard, Sr. Mr. Howard served as a pilot with the rank of flight officer in the US Army Air Corps during World War II. He owned and operated Howard's Garage for 38 years in Brooklin on the Benjamin River. He was predeceased by a brother, Robert T. Howard and a sister, Helen C. Kyhkynen. He is survived by his wife of 45 years, Ethel (Tapley) Howard of Brooklin; two daughters, Donna Day of Sargentville, and Joanne Preble and her husband, James of Cornville; one sister, Natalie Condon of Harborside; three grandchildren, Elizabeth Day, Jessica and Andrew Preble." Richard is son of Richard James Howard (1898-1974) & Jessie E. Black (1902-1973; m.21 September 1918 in Brooksville, Hancock Co., ME).
