Patricia Trollinger (ottawahillpt@neok.com) commented via email 18 Nov 2002: "I have been researching not only my Scruggs family but all Scruggs in general for over 40 years. In all of this time, I have never found proof that Henry and Anne Grose Scruggs were the parents of the children accredited to them. My own line goes back to Henry Scruggs who married a lady named Elizabeth. Their youngest son, Julius, is my 4th great grandfather. Naturally, I have made every effort to establish the ancestry of Henry, the supposed son of Henry and Anne Grose. So, we are all up against the same stone wall. At this point, we do not even know who our emigrant ancestor was. We have engaged an English genealogist to solve the problem for us. There are many possibilities due to the different spelling of Scruggs in the early years. (Patricia Piper's) ancestry to Richard and Martha Scruggs is not in question. However, I am not sure that her last name was Drury. I am wondering if Joe A. Chilton is a cousin of mine. Sheibley, of Elliottsburg; a brother, Chester R. Noll, of Greenpark; four grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. Services were held Saturday at the funeral home on Walnut St., Newport. The Rev. Perry Bucke, of Calvary United Methodist Church, Newport, officiated. Burial was in Snyder's Church Cemetery."
